The Truth About Eric Andre's Relationship With Rosario Dawson

Despite her decades-long career in the public eye, actress Rosario Dawson has managed to keep details about her love life relatively private until recent years. However, when Chance the Rapper demands proof of your relationship, you better be sure to share those receipts far and wide. Hearsay aside, Chance the Rapper refused to believe the Daredevil actress was dating comedian Eric Andre until she could provide physical evidence — so she did.

On Valentine's Day 2017, both Dawson and Andre confirmed their relationship by celebrating their love on social media. "Happy Valentines Day my love! #MyCuddlyValentine #Valentines," Dawson captioned one photograph of her and Andre in the stereotypical "prom pose" alongside a koala. "The undisputed most gorgeous being on the planet ????? @rosariodawson I love u bb?? #HappyValentinesDay," Andre wrote in a since-deleted tweet (via Popsugar).

Even though the couple made it Instagram official, Chance the Rapper believed the photos were merely part of the Adult Swim actor's signature elaborate pranks, so he texted Dawson for confirmation. In response, Andre posted photos of the pair showing their tongues touching. "I think we have to touch tongues...people think this is a prank," he wrote in a now-deleted tweet.

Sadly, after one year together, Dawson and Andre ended their relationship. While the public wasn't privy to much of their relationship, it's clear that they cared about each other a great deal during that time.

Erica Andre took care of Rosario Dawson after she had surgery

After the February 2017 love fest, Rosario Dawson reconfirmed her relationship with Andre during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Dawson, who met Andre at the Democratic National Convention in 2016, told the late night host that the comedian helped her recover from emergency surgery for a ruptured cyst on her ovary over Labor Day weekend of that same year. "He took care of me in an adult diaper. That is love," she told Colbert.

In September 2017, Dawson reminisced about the experience on Instagram. Although Dawson has since removed the post, the Sin City actress expressed her gratitude for Andre's support on the anniversary of her surgery. "What a difference a year makes...This weekend marks a year that I had to get emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding from a ruptured cyst on my ovary," she wrote, per W Magazine. "It was the first time I told [Eric Andre] that I loved him (and very much not the last). Thankful for his care and all of the doctors and nurses and staff at the Desert Regional Medical Center."

Alas, their relationship wasn't destined to last. "Rosario and Eric went their separate ways. They are still friends and wish each other the best," a source told E! News. "They did have some great times together over the year as a couple." Thankfully, Dawson and Andre split on good terms and remain close friends.

Rosario Dawson and N.J. Senator Cory Booker are an item now

Around the time she broke up with Andre, Rosario Dawson met Senator Cory Booker at a fundraiser for Ben Jealous, the gubernatorial candidate for Maryland. However, Booker told CNN during the network's March 2019 Town Hall that Dawson didn't give the former presidential candidate the time of day.

"So we met again, and I had one of those really awkward experiences. I'm a United States senator, and I had to get up the courage to walk up to her and ask her for her phone number. And this doesn't make me nervous, but that made me nervous," he said. "She is an incredible girlfriend. I'm very lucky to be in a relationship with someone who is just so incredibly special, but more importantly has taught me so much in a very short period of time."

Dawson shared the same sentiment when she confirmed her relationship to TMZ. "I am just grateful to be with someone that I respect and love and admire so much," Dawson said. "He's an amazing human being...It's good to spend some time together when we can." While Dawson cheered her "person" on during his run for the Democratic nomination, Booker ultimately suspended his campaign in January 2020 and endorsed former vice president Joe Biden for president.

He might not have been able to earn America's support, but he's certainly captured Dawson's heart!
