The Truth About Chase Stokes And Madelyn Cline's Relationship

Isn't it great when actors who play love interests on screen actually start dating in real life? For example, when Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis — who played Kelso and Jackie on That '70s Show from 1998 to 2006 — started hooking up in 2012 (via Insider), fans were ecstatic. So, when Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline — who play John B. and Sarah Cameron, respectively, on Netflix's hit show Outer Banks — finally confirmed that they are, in fact, an item off-screen on June 14, 2020, people couldn't help but get excited.

The teen drama, which is similar to The O.C. and The Goonies, takes place off the coast of North Carolina and follows a group of four friends known as the Pogues — "home of the working class, who make a living busing tables, washing yachts, running charters," John B. said in the show's pilot — as they try to find John B.'s missing father. John B. realizes his father was in the middle of a treasure hunt before he disappeared, and he enlists Sarah — who is a Kook, someone who is well-off and has power on the island — to help him. As a result, the two catch feelings for one another and go on a crazy adventure together.

So, how did Stokes and Cline go from being co-stars to lovers? We dissect their relationship below.

Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline made their relationship Instagram official

On June 14, 2020, Chase Stokes confirmed he was dating his Outer Banks co-star Madelyn Cline by sharing photos from their beach date on Instagram. "cats outta the bag," the actor captioned two snapshots of the pair enjoying dinner while watching the sunset. Cline couldn't help but comment, writing, "Topper punching the air rn," referring to her character's ex-boyfriend, Topper, from the series. "I've fallen and I can't get up," the actress added.

Clearly, Cline and Stokes' Outer Banks co-stars are thrilled for the new couple. Jonathan Daviss, who plays Pope Heyward on the Netflix show, wrote, "Well it's about time," while Rudy Pankow, who plays JJ Maybank, added, "boom!!"

Of course, fans were rooting for Stokes and Cline to date all along since their connection is so apparent. "Love to see it!" one person wrote, while another echoed, "Oh snap!!! Nice!!!! Happy for you guys!"

Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline previously sparked romance rumors

Even though Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline confirmed they were dating IRL in June 2020, the two actually sparked dating rumors in April 2020 — shortly after their show, Outer Banks, premiered on Netflix.

In fact, at the time, the two confirmed they were living together amid the coronavirus pandemic. "Some of the cast — Drew Starkey, Rudy Pankow, Chase and myself — and our friend Elaine are all kind of quarantining together right now," Cline told E! News in April 2020.

"We are at Maddy's apartment," Stokes added. "We were all hanging out one night, and we were like, 'It's so boring to do this by ourselves.' Through a weird chain of events, we were like, 'Let's do this together.'"

Stokes even added fuel to the fire by leaving a comment on a gorgeous photo of Cline from 1883 Magazine on Instagram (via Us Weekly) later that same month. "Heart rate ... decreasing ... help," the actor wrote. Clearly, these two got quite cozy in quarantine.

How Chase Stokes and Madelyn Cline bonded off-screen

After watching Outer Banks, it's clear that the cast has undeniable chemistry, and it's all because they hung out when the cameras weren't rolling. "It's pretty strange how quick we all clicked," Chase Stokes revealed during Barstool Sports' podcast, Chicks in the Office, in April 2020. "We all moved into the same apartment complex. Rudy [Pankow] and I lived together in the same place the entire time."

While Stokes and his girlfriend, Madelyn Cline, have yet to explain how their romance blossomed, it seemed like it was bound to happen after spending so much time with one another. "Every weekend we were just all at mine and Rudy's place," the actor added. "There is so much to do in Charleston [South Carolina], there are so many great restaurants, there's some good bars, there's some good little clubs that we would go out to, so it was almost like summer camp to where you are forced into this little thing.

He added, "It made for this instant long-term family friendship that you have, that is translated outside the show, too."

After the cast wrapped season one of the series, their friendship remained intact. "It's interesting because with this cast, in particular, we came back to LA ... it's like we've uprooted all of the debauchery and face-planted back in L.A. like nothing changed," the actress said.

We can't wait to see what's in store for Stokes and Cline — on and off-screen.
