Hannah Waddingham Usually Dominates The Red Carpet, But Wimbledon 2024 Was A Rare Miss

Actor Hannah Waddingham suffered a rare fashion flop in the public eye when she attended day three of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships on July 3, 2024, in London. She hit the world's oldest tennis event wearing a floral dress from Elie Saab's resort 2024 collection. While the dress seemed comfortable enough for a casual family vacation at a beach resort, it was not particularly flattering and certainly did not fit in at the prestigious sporting event full of A-list celebrities.

Even though the ladies from "Ted Lasso" are gorgeous in real life, they are not immune to fashion disasters. Hannah Waddingham's Wimbledon dress in the summer of 2024 looked like a clash of two completely different dresses that have been sewn together. The top half was a black and lavender floral dress with a busy pattern that looked more messy than elegant. The bottom half of the dress was much worse, suddenly becoming a floral nightmare of clashing colors and chaotic print.

Waddingham's thin black belt only added to the confusion, failing to separate what seemed like two distinct parts of the dress while doing nothing for her figure. Her other accessories were all mismatched, from her underwhelming and overly casual flats to her white, comically large sunglasses and an incongruously small white clutch purse. The spring-themed ensemble was ill-fitting for the heart of summer, though it still would've been a sartorial trainwreck at a spring sporting event like the Kentucky Derby.

Hannah Waddingham is a particularly tall actor, so the veteran of stage and screen is unfortunately used to not fitting in. In a 2024 interview with Woman & Home, the actor revealed how she learned to embrace standing out from the crowd. "Never slouch — physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually — never slouch for anyone, ever," she said. "Because I feel like I did for a long time, to feel like you fit in. Or dim your light because you're big when you come into a room. Which sounds easier than it is. We all have those moments when you want to recoil, but I don't think that it's good for your soul, and the people that love you will love you anyway."

In the same interview from less than two months before the tennis event, Waddingham had also expressed difficulty in finding clothes that fit. "I have tugged down every hem on a pair of trousers in changing rooms and shops," she told Woman & Home. "You know, I've just got my finger in there and taken the hem down while I'm in the changing room for years – it's an issue. Shorter people can take the hem up, you can't add a whole chunk when you're tall, it looks ridiculous." Given how much Hannah Waddingham is really worth, she probably could have afforded a tailor or a better dress for Wimbledon 2024.

Fortunately, Waddingham received some Wimbledon redemption by appearing at the July 2026 tennis event wearing an elegant three-piece ivory set from Argent. The classy yet light ensemble looked breezy and cool, creating a sleek and mature look that suited the actress. "Hannah Waddingham is an icon, she's fabulous," an Instagram user commented on Hello! Magazine's post about the actor's appearance in the outfit. "She makes that suit look amazing — I think it's her shoulders that make the suit look much more fitted," a Redditor shared on a dedicated thread about the same stunning summer look. After learning her lesson from 2024's fashion mishap, Waddingham's attire improved so much that she even found herself on lists of Wimbledon's best-dressed just two years later.
