For well over two decades, divorce rumors have plagued Phillip McGraw, also known as Dr. Phil, and his wife, Robin McGraw, even though they've made it very clear that they have no intention of ever splitting up. In 2026, the famous TV couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a special, hour-long episode of "The Dr. Phil Podcast," where Dr. Phil and his wife said their haters have had it all wrong about their marriage for years. But not only are the rumors completely false; the two also seem to be in a pretty good place in their marriage, all things considered. "We had great conversations before we got married about how we wanted to be married. And I always think of that because they were very, very important conversations," Robin also shared during the episode. "And I'm really proud of us because we were serious about our marriage."

One of those discussions has to do with divorce. During a 2023 episode of his eponymous show, Dr. Phil discussed a pact he and Robin made at the beginning of their marriage to never consider divorce as an option. "We made a decision real early on that no matter what we're discussing, no matter what argument we may be having ... the relationship is never the stakes for which we're playing. That's just off the table," he said (via Facebook). And so far, they've made good on their promise.

In 2026, Dr. Phil McGraw and Robin McGraw caught up with Us Weekly ahead of their 50th milestone anniversary to reflect on their marriage and share the key to their lasting union. The happy couple has been married since 1976 after meeting through Dr. Phil's sister (when Robin was just 19) and now share two sons and four grandchildren. "It's really flown by," Dr. Phil enthused. Meanwhile, Robin is proud of the life they've built together. "I get so emotional," she said. "I hope I don't cry through this entire process because it's been [a] very, very beautiful time for us right now."

But how exactly do they make it work? For the TV host-slash-psychologist, it's really something as simple as thinking of ways he can show up and make life a little nicer for his wife. "It doesn't have to be a big thing, but those little things add up," Dr. Phil emphasized. He argued that a lot of marriages would have better chances of working out if people spent less time thinking about themselves and paid more attention to their partners. It's also about being in tune with one another and knowing what makes the other person happy and what doesn't. "In those [early] conversations [we had], I learned what buttons I could push to upset him or make him mad," Robin also noted. "I choose every day for 50 years not to push those buttons." Instead, "I know what makes him happy and I choose to do that."

Dr. Phil McGraw and Robin McGraw also know how to keep the spark alive in their marriage. In 2015, Robin surprised her husband with a sweet anniversary video on Facebook, as they celebrated 39 years of marriage despite the rampant divorce gossip. The clip showed Robin painting hearts to Ed Sheeran's hit song "Thinking Out Loud" while dressed in white and wearing the same veil she'd worn when they tied the knot in 1976. Speaking with ET, Dr. Phil shared his appreciation for his wife, saying, "She has always been the queen of creative. I mean, she's created our home. She's created our family, and she's done it all from love."

For Valentine's Day in 2019, Robin also turned the tables on her husband, surprising Dr. Phil with flowers and asking him to be her Valentine with the help of the audience (via Facebook). But although Robin is usually the one who comes up with these surprises, Dr. Phil decided to return the favor by arranging a special performance from Robin's favorite artist on "The Dr. Phil Show" that same year. That surprise artist turned out to be none other than their son, Jordan McGraw, who performed his new single, "HER," alongside his then-girlfriend and singer, Marissa Jack. Like any married couple, Dr. Phil McGraw and Robin McGraw have also weathered many a storm throughout the many, many years that they've been together. One of the biggest hurdles they've ever had to face was when their youngest son, Jordan McGraw, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer when he was just 12 years old. And it's not just Jordan, either — their eldest son, Jay, also underwent a medical procedure due to a health complication in his stomach when he was barely a month old. "There's nothing more challenging than to face an ordeal or a trauma with your children," Robin stressed in their conversation with Us Weekly. But they always have their faith and each other to lean on. Previously, the pair also recalled going through a difficult chapter in their lives as they dealt with back-to-back tragedies within just a few months of each other.

During an episode of "The Dr. Phil Show," the psychologist revealed that Robin's sister, Cindi, who was a victim of a random acid attack in 2001, had passed away after suffering a stroke in 2018 at the age of 68. "She had a serious heart problem, and she actually had to have an artificial heart transplant," Dr. Phil said, noting that Cindi made it through the surgery okay, only to then suffer a stroke and slip into a coma. Sadly, that wasn't the only loss they suffered that year. "While I was working with getting all that done with Robin's sister, my sister died," Dr. Phil confirmed. "So we lost my sister and Robin's sister within about a month of each other." On top of it all, the couple also had to say goodbye to their sweet rescue dog named Maggie. But with God's grace, their marriage was able to withstand all those painful blows.

Dr. Phil McGraw and Robin McGraw also aren't shy about publicly demonstrating their love for each other amid all the noise surrounding their relationship. Though he doesn't post about Robin as much these days, Dr. Phil used to frequently gush about his wife on social media and has rarely missed an opportunity to shower her with love on their anniversary. In 2025, for instance, the longtime host penned a sweet note for his wife as they marked 49 years of marriage. He also regularly sings his wife's praises on his long-running show, "Dr. Phil," including in 2023, when he made a point of highlighting Robin's success and ability to stand on her own feet.
