Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce Give Their New Ohio Neighbors Total Meghan & Harry Vibes

In early September, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce made headlines after it was revealed that the couple had purchased a lavish lakefront home in Bratenahl, Ohio, adding to their growing list of properties across the country after tying the knot in July. But things haven't gone as smoothly as they likely hoped, with Swift and Kelce facing pushback from their neighbors over their attempts to tighten security around their new home. According to Page Six, the pop star and NFL player put up additional measures to keep unwanted visitors off their lawn, which didn't exactly endear them to their fellow residents. As one source dished, "A neighbor approached the house and got a voice warning about not passing onto the property after getting too close to the house." Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would, reportedly, totally approve.

When the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to Montecito in 2020, following their decision to step down from royal life, several of their neighbors claimed that Harry and Meghan weren't exactly eager to fit in and get involved with their new community either. Retired Navy vet Frank McGinity claimed he was given the cold shoulder following an attempt to welcome the royal defectors by gifting them some films he made explaining the history of their neighborhood. "I have a big house next to Harry and Meghan's property and I live in the guest house while renting the main house out on Airbnb," he wrote in his 2023 memoir "Get Off Your Street: A Personal Travelogue." "Harry and Meghan live on old McCormick property and I went up to their gate with the films on a CD." But, to the author's dismay, he was purportedly snubbed: "The gate guy turned me away and wouldn't take the film, just saying, 'They're not interested.'"

Unfortunately for the Sussexes, Frank McGinity isn't the only neighbor who has spoken out about his negative experience living near them. Richard Mineards, a local columnist in Montecito, also made pointed comments about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the 2024 documentary "Harry: The Lost Prince." "I personally don't think that Meghan is an asset to our community. [...] She doesn't really go out or get involved," Mineards professed at the time (via Page Six). "Harry has to a certain extent [...] [but] you don't see him either." Another local, who went by the name Susan, also reported that she was snubbed after attempting to make a sweet gesture to welcome her new celebrity neighbors. 

"I left a bottle of wine at their gate to welcome them, and it was returned to me, unopened, the following day," she recalled to the Daily Mail. The interaction left Susan with a bad impression of the Sussexes. "I'm not sure they ever wanted to hang out with anyone who wasn't a billionaire or famous or both," she reasoned. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have reportedly faced additional opposition from their own neighbors over their plans to put up a security fence around their new Ohio mansion. 

Celebrity gossip website DeuxMoi claimed that the proposed fence had raised concerns, with residents fearing it might ruin their gorgeous lakefront views. The issue even led to a discussion with local residents, who were ultimately able to convince the A-listers to reconsider. But fans of Swift and Kelce sympathize with the celebrity couple. "You'd want a fence too if you were them," one Instagram user wrote. Another warned, "Wait until the media shows up then they will really wish they had a fence!"
