Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce can't seem to catch a break after recently acquiring a new lakefront mansion in Ohio, which may just become the celebrity couple's "forever home." Swift and Kelce, who got hitched in Madison Square Garden in July 2026, already own properties in New York and Los Angeles. But they have been facing pushback from residents over their plans to put up fencing and trees around their new Ohio estate for added security. According to the Daily Mail, Katherine Bolton, a neighbor who lives right next to them, complained about the trees being planted near a shared sewer line, citing potential problems down the line.

Notably, she described Swift and Kelce's arrival to their community as a "tremendous blow [to] the peace and quiet in Bratenahl." Ouch. "What am I going to do when I have 50 evergreen trees on my sewer line, and they're gone?" Bolton reportedly asked during a meeting with Bratenahl's Architectural Review Board. "This applicant may decide to sell her house next year, maybe move on and buy another house. [...] And I'm still living here in Bratenahl." Another longtime resident who lives nearby also criticized the extensive clearing of trees and shrubs. In particular, Chuck Bauernschmidt expressed concern that the privacy fence could pose a safety hazard to animals wandering around in the area.

"It's now ridiculous," he complained. "All the trees are gone." Further, there were also discussions about whether installing a fence would actually be enough to keep paparazzi away from Swift and Kelce's property in the first place. "I think that the greater security threat for the applicant is from drones and the water," Bolton's husband pointed out. As he argued, the options for dealing with those kinds of intrusions are pretty limited, and legally murky.

Swift and Kelce's application for a privacy fence has been granted

It's safe to say that Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's efforts to tighten security around their Ohio home haven't exactly endeared the celebrity couple to their new neighbors, who couldn't help but get Meghan and Harry vibes from the situation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who recently returned to the U.K., also faced issues around their neighborhood after relocating to California in 2020. Aside from wanting a fence built around their sprawling estate, Page Six reported that the "Cleveland!" singer and NFL star have also installed additional security measures, including an automatic voice warning system for anyone who ventures too close to their home. An insider source detailed how a neighbor discovered this after they "approached the house and got a voice warning about not passing onto the property." Residents wondered whether it was even necessary.

Patrick Hyland, who manages Swift and Kelce's property, clarified that they have since allowed their neighbors to access a part of it upon learning of their concerns. He also revealed that the couple had agreed to shoulder the expenses for the repair and cleaning of a shared, broken sewer "without asking for any help, just to show that we're good neighbors," (via the Daily Mail). Swift and Kelce's divisive request to build a fence around their property was ultimately granted by Bratenahl's Architectural Review Board, after giving both sides the opportunity to speak. But something tells us this won't be the last time we'll be hearing from the couple's neighbors.
