Decades Later, This Roswell Star Is Still The Ultimate '90s Heartthrob
TV fans who grew up in the 1990s (or just like '90s television) are probably familiar with actor Jason Behr, who became a heartthrob when he starred in the teen sci-fi drama "Roswell," which premiered in 1999. The show follows a teenage girl named Liz Parker, played by Shiri Appleby, who has a strange incident with a boy named Max Evans, played by Behr. This kickstarts an out-of-this-world experience. Spoiler alert: Max is an alien, and the group works together to learn more about him and his friends' background while dealing with normal teen drama.
Behr, who was in his mid-20s when the show aired its first season, really mastered the art of being brooding and mysterious, and fans quickly became enamored with Max and the handsome actor who played him. Although it has been decades since "Roswell" was on the air, Behr is actually still quite the heartthrob now. He turned 52 in December 2025 and certainly doesn't look his age. He is easily recognizable as the same man who played the alien Max in the beloved TV show.
These days, Behr is still a working actor, appearing in projects like "Breakout Kings" and "Supergirl," the hit show starring Melissa Benoist. He even made a cameo in the "Roswell" reboot called "Roswell, New Mexico," playing the character Tripp Manes in a handful of episodes. Over the years, he has clearly prioritized his own health as well, showing off an impressive set of muscles in a 2022 photo that had fans absolutely stunned. Seeing this, it's no wonder he looks practically ageless.
Jason Behr appeared in many classic 1990s shows
By the time he starred in "Roswell," Jason Behr had already acted in a slew of now-iconic 1990s TV shows. His status as a '90s heartthrob was pretty much settled by then, with "Roswell" solidifying his reputation. His first credited role was a part in the sitcom "Step by Step," while he followed that up with appearances in "Pacific Blue" and "JAG." From 1995 to 1997, he had a main role on the show "Sherman Oaks." This was a unique mockumentary comedy that was unfortunately canceled after two seasons. Luckily, that left him open to audition for "Roswell."
But even before the alien drama came along, Behr had a few more memorable stops along the way. He joined the casts of "Dawson's Creek," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," and "7th Heaven," three major hits from the 1990s. As for how he got the part as Max in "Roswell," it almost didn't happen. In a retrospective interview with Variety for the show's 25th anniversary, show creator Jason Katims said, "We had heard about him, but he had been sick and had lost his voice." Thankfully, they waited for Behr to recover enough so he could audition, and Katims said he knew "immediately" that he was right for the role.
"Roswell" was a surprise success, and it ran for three seasons before it was canceled. But even now, people still love and remember the show. In an interview for "The Jason Show" in early 2026, Behr called the experience of making the series and the unending love from fans "special." He explained, "People come up to me to this day, and they talk about how they watched it, how it helped them maybe through certain hard times. ... It's this gift that keeps on giving."
