Meghan Markle & Kim Kardashian's $148 Advent Calendars Have Their Biggest Fans Feeling Betrayed
Now that Halloween's behind us and the holiday season is around the corner, it can only mean one thing. Well, maybe two. One, Mariah Carey's Christmas classic will soon be everywhere, and two, celebrity advent calendars are here to delight (and disappoint). Advent calendars have always been a fun holiday tradition, with small treats and gifts hidden behind each day up until Christmas. However, with Meghan Markle and Kim Kardashian's new Advent calendars, fans might as well be getting a lump of coal each day.
Advent calendars are a gold mine for brands, but it doesn't always work in their favor. Kardashian's brand Skims announced its new Accessories Advent Calendar, which will set fans back a whopping $148 a pop. The price might be on the high end, but many were willing to pay the set price because they believed it could even end up being a steal. That is, until the influencer reviews came flooding in for Kardashian's calendar, and fans got to see exactly what they would be revealing each day. Skims' advent calendar includes two sets of hair ties, a teddy bear keychain, bobby pins, and more things one might find at the back of Kardashian's bedside drawer.
Meghan's advent calendar isn't faring much better. For the same price, Meghan's As Ever collaborated with Compartes Chocolate to give fans... well, not much, according to reviewers. The calendar consists of chocolates. At least with Kardashian's calendar, the items could hold up rather than being gone in one bite.
Meghan and Kim K's fans are upset
Naturally, fans of both Meghan Markle's As Ever and Kim Kardashian's Skims are lashing out at these seemingly overpriced advent calendars. People are flocking to Instagram and TikTok after several influencer reviews revealed the true contents. Many are calling the Skims advent calendar a complete "scam." One frustrated fan took to X to declare, "Just saw the skims advent calendar and I can't believe people are paying $149 for some hair ties." Another X user even pointed out the fact that the Skims brand focuses on clothing and undergarments, so an advent calendar built around accessories doesn't make much sense. "This is a clothing company known for underwear, bras, socks, sweaters, tank tops, etc.. There's not a single piece of clothing in the entire box! It's got MULTIPLE SETS OF BOBBY PINS, HAIR TIES, A SQUISHY, KEY CHAINS & that's it."
Meghan's calendar hasn't stormed up quite the same sort of riot as of yet. On TikTok, fans were confused as to why the advent calendar featured Meghan and Prince Harry's Montecito home plastered over it. One person commented, "Nothing says Christmas to me more than an image of a strangers home in California." In another TikTok, one user wrote, "I'd rather have a £10 Lindt calendar any day."
Either way, it seems Meghan and Kardashian have made it on many fans' naughty lists this year thanks to their overpriced holiday goodies.
