Megan the Stallion and Tory Lanez social distanced ... together

While much of the world was social distancing during the coronavirus pandemic, rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez were hanging out ... a lot. An Instagram Live session from April 2020 showcased the pair listening to music and performing TikTok challenges, per The Shade Room. The rappers didn't show any signs of PDA, but fans wondered if there may be something romantic going on between them. "But why Tory Lanez and Megan look cute together..." one follower tweeted at the time. Another added, "I want Megan and Tory together now."

One month later, Tory also posted a video of Megan and her friend trying to balance wine glasses on their heads. Then, on July 11, 2020, Megan and Tory attended a party with reality star Kylie Jenner in Hollywood Hills, Calif. At the time, the "Savage" singer posted an Instagram Live that depicted the three of them hanging out in a pool before being interrupted by someone saying the music had to be turned down because the police were there. According to Page Six, Megan and Tory got into an argument after leaving that party together.

Megan Thee Stallion calls the shooting an 'eye opener'

Rumor has it that rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez were  secretly dating and broke up moments before their horrifying post-party altercation. According to Showbiz Cheat Sheet, YouTube star Tasha K claimed the rappers were together for a few months. Word is they hid their relationship to maintain Megan's image. However, things apparently went sour following the party and after the two left in a vehicle together. An argument supposedly ensued, and according to TMZ, "Tory opened fire from inside the vehicle, and allegedly hit Meg in the feet twice." It's important to note: Those details have not been confirmed by law enforcement or any official sources at this time.

On July 15, 2020, three days after the incident, Megan released a statement via Instagram to "set the record straight." She said, in part: "I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets. I'm incredibly grateful to be alive and that I'm expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night."

She added in a comment on Instagram, "I was never arrested. This whole experience was an eye opener and a blessing in disguise. I hate that it took this experience for me to learn how to protect my energy."

Tory Lanez's role in the altercation remains murky

In her Instagram post, Megan Thee Stallion said her injury was "the result of a crime that was committed against me and done with the intention to physically harm me," leading many to believe that fellow musician Tory Lanez shot her following their alleged argument. Megan's best friend and assistant, Kelsey Nicole, was also reportedly in the vehicle at the time of the incident, and she has also taken to Instagram to share her side of the story. "I want to clear up the rumors that I shot Megan," Kelsey wrote (via The Shade Room). "I WASN'T the one with the gun and would never do something like that. However I was present."

Some social media users reportedly speculated that Tory was trying to protect Megan during the incident and may have shot her by accident. Megan's music producer, Lil Juju, seemed to respond to that theory by tweeting (via The Shade Room): "I hope y'all don't believe he was defending her. This is a bulls**t story." Megan also cryptically tweeted: "Black women are so unprotected & we hold so many things in to protect the feelings of others w/o considering our own."

An online petition to deport the Canadian rapper has also gained some traction, prompting Tory's team to issue a statement to XXL: "Tory has not been deported and is self-quarantining with his family in Florida. This is a perfect example of false information being spread regarding this case, his whereabouts and his character." According to CBS Los Angeles, the "Luv" rapper posted $35,000 bail and is due back in court in October.
