Are Katy Perry And Taylor Swift Friends Again?

The complex relationship between best frenemies Katy Perry and Taylor Swift emerged as one of the greatest pop culture rivalries to ever grace the tabloids. The feud was so well documented that it was even written up in The New York Times. Here's a quick recap: The queens of pop once shared a close friendship — at least, by social media standards — and often tweeted glowing compliments of each other back and forth.

As early as July 2009 Swift tweeted (via People), "Watching the Waking up in Vegas video. I love Katy Perry. I think I'm going to hang her poster on my wall now." Perry responded that Swift was "sweet as pie," but the love was short-lived.

There's some contention over how the feud began. Some think it started when Perry began dating Swift's ex John Mayer, but most agree it had to do with backup dancers and the stars' dueling tours. In 2013, when Swift was in the midst of her worldwide tour for her album Red, three of her backup dancers abruptly quit and joined Perry's Prismatic tour, according to The New York Times. Swift was understandably hurt and blamed Perry for the disruption to her tour.

How did Swift respond? With a song, of course. Swift's 2018 hit "Bad Blood" is widely considered to be a response to what she saw as a betrayal by Perry. Perry responded to the diss with, "Swish, Swish" a few years later. However, as of this writing, it seems like they may have finally buried the hatchet.

Taylor Swift sent Katy Perry the sweetest gift

Katy Perry and Taylor Swift kissed and made up when Perry appeared in Swift's star-laden music video for her single "You Need to Calm Down" in 2019. Perry showed up dressed as a giant cheeseburger and shared a sweet hug with Swift near the end of the video. While some thought this might be a PR stunt, Swift's thoughtful gift to Perry months later seemingly proved the feud was over and done.

Perry and partner Orlando Bloom, welcomed a daughter, Daisy Dove, in August 2020, and Swift was quick to offer her congratulations. On Sept. 14, 2020, Perry shared an Instagram post of a pink, silk baby blanket Swift sent to the child. The blanket came with a handwritten letter addressed to "Katy and Orlando (and little one)."

The gesture touched Perry. "Miss [Daisy Dove] adores her hand-embroidered blankie from miss @taylorswift," she captioned the post, adding that she hopes, "it's one she drags around for years till it becomes an unrecognizable shred that she keeps in her pocket as a teenager."

In Swift's note, which was partially visible in the photo, the star wrote that a similar "tiny silk" blanket was her "most prized possession" when she was a child. Hoping to create something equally sentimental for the baby, Swift upgraded the blanket with embroidered stars, the year 2020, a flower, and the words, "Baby Bloom." Safe to say there's no bad blood here.
