The Truth About Trisha Yearwood And Kelly Clarkson's Relationship
The country music world is a tight circle, and no one seems tighter than singers Trisha Yearwood and Kelly Clarkson. Not only have the two women collaborated on music, but they also seem to genuinely respect and like each other.
For example, when news broke in June 2020 that Clarkson was divorcing her husband of almost seven years, Yearwood protected her friend against social media trolls. If you can believe it, some people just couldn't handle that the country singer hosts her own TV show, is filling in for Simon Cowell on America's Got Talent, and has so many other projects in the air. Someone wrote in a now-deleted tweet (via ET Canada), "No wonder her marriage didn't work... Surprised she has time for her kids... Not the good old country girl we fell in love with... It's all about Kelly being on TV... and no one else... no tears for her... but for her kids."
In response, Clarkson tweeted back, "This can't be who you are deep down. I have more faith in your heart. Aim higher, please." After that, Yearwood came to Clarkson's defense on social media, too, and stood up for her friend, writing, "How about a woman who is a great friend, amazing mom, does any job she's asked to do with joy and enthusiasm, and manages to be a freakin' sparkling rainbow when she walks into a room?! Aim higher is right." And this isn't the first time these two have had each other's backs.
Trisha Yearwood thinks Kelly Clarkson is 'unreal'
Kelly Clarkson and Trisha Yearwood have worked on a number of projects together. For example, Clarkson performed Garth Brooks' "Ain't Going Down (Til' the Sun Comes Up)" at the CMA Music Festival in 2013 and called on Yearwood, Brooks' wife, to come up on stage to sing with her (pictured above).
More recently, the two performed Yearwood's song "Believe Me Baby (I Lied)" during a virtual episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show in June 2020. They've also worked together on Yearwood's songs "Prizefighter" and "Tell Me Something I Don't Know." In August 2019, Yearwood told People that there's a reason that when she wants a strong vocal on her songs, she calls Clarkson. Yearwood said to the magazine, "When I want a harmony that's really strong and really up there, I'm going to call in the big guns, and that's her."
Yearwood added that Clarkson has an "unreal" ability to just come in, hit her notes, and then head out without too much fanfare. Which is precisely why she wasn't all that impressed that Clarkson had a burst appendix just before hosting the 2019 Billboard Music Awards or having a burst ovarian cyst a week later while filming The Voice. Yearwood said, "She's a pro."
It's that kind of solidarity, friendship, and respect that makes watching these two women perform together all the more fun.
