Jill Biden And Doug Emhoff's Relationship Explained
Democratic nominee Joe Biden and his running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, both have supportive and accomplished spouses. Biden is married to Dr. Jill Biden, a professor, who raised his two sons, Beau and Hunter Biden, and gave birth to the ex-VP's only daughter, Ashley Biden. As for Harris, her righthand guy is Doug Emhoff, a respected lawyer who entered their marriage with two children. Emhoff's kids affectionately call Harris "S-Mamala," Vogue reported.
Considering Emhoff and Dr. Biden are successful people who happened to be married to politicians, it's fair to wonder if they've developed a friendship during the 2020 presidential campaign. The possibility of a bond is even more likely now that Emhoff temporarily left his job in August 2020 to accommodate Harris' run, presumably providing him more time to spend with Dr. Biden at events.

Jill Biden and Douglas Emhoff 'genuinely like each other'
California Sen. Kamala Harris gave insight to People about Douglas Emhoff and Dr. Jill Biden's sweet relationship, noting how the two were already "buddies" before Democratic nominee Joe Biden asked her to be his vice president. "They were on the trail together," Harris explained in August 2020. So what ends up happening is that the candidate spouses, they take to the road on their own and go to various places that we can't be. So Doug and Jill did the gay pride parade together in Las Vegas. They've done presentations together, and they sit next to each other at debates."
Harris also revealed a funny anecdote about how Dr. Biden and Emhoff reacted when she and Joe battled it out on the debate stage. "During the [Democratic presidential primary] debates, we'd be going at each other — they're just laughing." She continued, "We're looking down like, 'How'd I do?' And they're just chatting with each other."
Dr. Biden and Emhoff, who both hail from New Jersey, also host campaign events together. When visiting Iowa in September 2020, they gave a joint interview, and, during a stop to New Hampshire, the pair "held events focused on health care and veterans," the Associated Press reported. As it appears, Dr. Jill Biden and Douglas Emhoff are quite the team.
