Why DWTS Fans Are Shipping Jesse Metcalfe And Sharna Burgess

Dancing with the Stars has sprouted numerous romantic relationships. In July 2020, Nikki Bella and fiancé Artem Chigvintsev – who was her dance partner on Season 25 of the reality show — welcomed their first child together. At one point, Maks Chmerkovskiy was engaged to fellow pro dancer Karina Smirnoff. Now, he's married to Peta Murgatroyd and they have a son.

Robert Herjavec and Kym Johnson (now Kym Herjavec) hit it off on the dance floor before getting married and becoming parents to twins. The list of DWTS couples is actually a pretty long one. The facts don't lie: Dancing with the Stars is responsible for many long-term relationships (and even some short-lived flings). It's arguably a better place to find a significant other than an actual dating show.

Every season, the judges and viewers evaluate the pairs based on their technique and chemistry. But is the rapport between the dance partners simply a part of the dance routine or is it an indication of a developing romance? DWTS viewers are hoping for the latter when it comes to Jesse Metcalfe and dance partner Sharna Burgess. One viewer tweeted, "I try not to ship pros with their partners cause I understand this is a competition but you can't tell me Jesse and Sharna wouldn't be adorable." Another declared, "JESSE AND SHARNA HAVE MY HEART."

"If we're planning for a couple from DWTS to fall in love on this season I'm going all in on Sharna and Jesse," one fan posted. So what's the story behind their undeniable chemistry?

Jesse Metcalfe and Sharna Burgess had ups and downs behind the scenes

In September 2020, Sharna Burgess and Jesse Metcalfe revealed to Us Weekly that they started rehearsing their first dance "a whole week later than some people — if not more than that." Although they began at a disadvantage, the late start actually helped them bond even faster. Sharna told the outlet, "Once you get put in that stressful situation and you have to come together quickly, you go through all of those emotions."

Sharna said that the two of them had "no time to take it slow," which resulted in some "moments of understanding." Sharna vaguely remarked, "We didn't necessarily argue," while Jesse was more direct, admitting, "We had some deep chats, some minor disagreements." The Desperate Housewives alum divulged that they "went through the whole gamut," which he believes ultimately "brought [them] closer."

After describing dancing with a partner as a "form of therapy," the actor suggested: "They should make married couples that are having issues in their marriage, take dance classes together." The Hallmark Channel favorite theorized that it "would resolve a lot of issues and bring the couples closer." No wonder viewers are wondering if Jesse and Sharna are one of those couples. Alas, it doesn't seem likely.

In August 2020, the Daily Mail reported that Jesse is dating a Canadian model named Corin Jamie Lee Clark. He split from fiancée Cara Santana in January 2020 after dating for 13 years.

Sharna Burgess: 'the chemistry is amazing' with Jesse Metcalfe

Sharna Burgess discussed her second Dancing with the Stars performance with Jesse Metcalfe during an interview with Hollywood Life in late September 2020. She recounted, "The dance had a character" and " a story" behind it.

Sharna shared, "This is a song that meant something to Jesse." They performed the Foxtrot to the Fleetwood Mac song "Dreams," according to Parade. The dancer told Hollywood Life, "... [W]e decided that it was about a lot of the things he's had to sacrifice." She said that "[s]ome of those things are relationships," which may be a reference to his split from fiancée Cara Santana.

"When he finally walked away from me at the end it was that moment of 'I'm sorry, I have to go, and I have to do this," Sharna explained. She gushed, "The chemistry is amazing, but he's an incredible actor. It's easy to play off him and be in that moment and also know that there's truth to it just brings everything together beautifully. That's what makes dance so awesome."

Jesse may be an "incredible actor," but fans think there's more to it than that, with one viewer tweeting, "If Sharna and Jesse don't end up being in love by the end of this I swear to heck."

"I mean, you can't necessarily create chemistry. It's either there or it's not," Jesse told Hollywood Life, teasing that there was "a lot of subtext" to their performance, which is something fans will definitely read into.
