Who Is Emily From Emily In Paris' Real-Life Fiance?

Emily, the titular character of Netflix's latest hit show Emily in Paris, may be single, but the actress who plays her recently got engaged! In September 2020, Lily Collins announced that she was engaged to boyfriend Charlie McDowell in a series of Instagram posts that documented the outdoor proposal.

In a photo of her kissing McDowell, the 31-year-old actress wrote in the caption, "I've been waiting my lifetime for you and I can't wait to spend our lifetime together..." In another photo showing off the ring, Phil Collins' daughter wrote, "The purest joy I've ever felt..."

According to Metro U.K., the famous couple sparked dating rumors in July of 2019 after being spotted out in Los Angeles. Collins then seemed to confirm the relationship by posting a photo of them embracing on Instagram a month later with the caption, "Already missing our road trip adventure," in which McDowell commented, "Always got your back..."

But who exactly is this man who stole the Netflix star's heart?

Charlie McDowell is not new to Hollywood

While Lily Collins might be a household name thanks to Emily in Paris and movies like Mirror, Mirror and The Blind Side, Charlie McDowell is also used to being around famous people. He and Collins actually have growing up with famous parents in common. Marie Claire reported that Golden Globe-nominated actor Malcolm McDowell is Charlie's dad and his mom is Academy Award-winning actress Mary Steenburgen. His stepdad is Ted Danson from Cheers.

While Collins may be starring in front of the camera, McDowell is typically behind the scenes working as a writer and director. Marie Claire lists McDowell's most well-known films as The One I Love and The Discovery. He also directed episodes of a few popular shows including Silicon Valley and Dear White People.

Collins also isn't the first actress that McDowell has been linked to. The 37-year-old is rumored to have dated actresses Hilary Duff, Emilia Clarke, and Rooney Mara, according to the Daily Mail. But Collins knew that her and McDowell were meant to be from the day they met.

During an appearance on Live with Kelly and Ryan, the actress revealed, "I was very surprised as to when and where it would happen. But it was kind of one of those situations where I knew the second that I met him, that I wanted to be his wife one day, and so it was just a matter of when, really." When they do make things official, we can't wait to see photos from their big day!
