Who Is Matthew Koma? Hilary Duff's Husband

In October 2020, Hilary Duff announced that she was pregnant by sharing a video of her husband Matthew Koma embracing her baby bump, writing, "We are growing!!! Mostly me." Koma joked, "lol quarantine was fun. Baby #3 – 2021." This is the couple's second child together. The Lizzie McGuire alum has a son named Luca, who she shares with her first husband Mike Comrie.

Duff and Koma welcomed a daughter named Banks Violet Bair in October 2018. Koma's given name is actually Matthew Bair, per Insider. The Long Island native is a singer-songwriter and music producer, who met Duff in the recording studio when they worked on her 2015 album Breathe In. Breathe Out, per Us Weekly. He's also worked with Zedd, Kelly Clarkson, TiëstoBritney Spears, Bruce Springsteen, and Carly Rae Jepsen, who he dated in 2013, according to E! News.

In addition to collaborating with other artists on their songs, Koma has released his own music, including a song called "Dear Ana," which is about his struggles with anorexia. In 2017, Koma told People, "At the time I had just started going through the realization that I'd spent many years in a very unhealthy relationship with food and battling different versions of eating disorders, and I'd never really spoken it out loud or talked about it," until writing the song.

Both together and separately, Koma and Duff have been through a lot.

Hilary Duff and Matthew Koma have dated more than once

Hilary Duff met Matthew Koma while working on her album in 2015, one year after her split from Mike Comrie, according to Us Weekly. For the record, they were just friends at first, going public with their romance in 2017. However, their relationship wasn't exactly smooth sailing. During a December 2017 appearance on The Talk, Duff admitted (via Us Weekly), "I mean, this is the third time that we've dated."

Duff explained, "I think that you have history and a past with someone and love, and just because it doesn't work out the first time, the second time, as long as there's not too much damage done, then, it can always work out again." They seemingly stayed together since their third go at a romance, announcing their engagement on Instagram in May 2019. Just Jared reported that they tied the knot in December 2019 with a backyard ceremony at their home in Los Angeles.

Koma further solidified their relationship by getting "Hilary" tattooed on his butt cheek in September 2020, joking on Instagram, "Good luck winning a fight with your wife when her name's tattooed on your butt cheek." That's a unique take on commitment, that's for sure.
