The Wild Theory About Solange's True Relationship With Blue Ivy
When you're as famous as Beyoncé, you're no stranger to wild internet conspiracy theories. There were those who thought she was never really pregnant with Blue Ivy, a theory she addressed in her documentary Life Is But A Dream. There are those who think she and Jay-Z are members of the Illuminati, something she addressed in the opening lyric to "Formation." There are people who still want to know just what happened in that elevator with Jay-Z and Solange in 2014, something she (kind of) addressed in her collaboration with Nicki Minaj, "Flawless [Remix]."
And then there are even stranger theories. During the summer of 2020, Twitter began circulating one theory that posited Beyoncé was secretly an Italian woman named Ann Marie Lastrassi, a theory spread by very serious, honest-to-goodness Florida congressional candidate KW Miller. Obviously, that claim, which is transparently insane, was debunked by Snopes. The Lastrassi affair was not the only conspiracy about Beyoncé to circulate in 2020, however. Another rumor circulated suggesting that Beyoncé was not only the mother of Blue Ivy, but her sister Solange, as well.
Fans think Blue Ivy and Solange are... sisters?
Let's start with the facts: Beyoncé was born on September 4, 1981, making her 39 at the time of this writing. Solange was born on June 24, 1986, making her 34, and Blue Ivy Carter was born on January 7, 2012, rendering her eight. A conspiracy theory, reported by Metro, posits that we've been getting these very basic facts wrong the whole time.
Internet folks are saying that Beyoncé actually gave birth to Solange as a very young teenager and that Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles claimed Solange as her daughter, either to protect Beyoncé from the stigma of being a teen mom or to help her career. This theory is seemingly supported by an alleged employee of the Texas Department of Health, who claims to have found Beyoncé's "real" birth certificate, which is dated 1974 (and we'll just have to take her word for it). A former Columbia Records employee also claimed that there is a 14-year age gap between Beyoncé and Solange, a claim backed up by absolutely no concrete evidence.
Interestingly enough, Solange actually did have a child as a teenager, welcoming her son Julez when she was 18. If, and that's a big if, this theory were true, it would mean that Beyoncé is not only a grandmother, but that Blue Ivy is an aunt and nearly a decade younger than her nephew. Of course, there are still people who believe Blue Ivy isn't Beyoncé's daughter at all, so we're just going to have to live with some mystery.
