Why Lee Brice Isn't Performing At The CMA Awards Anymore

Country singer Lee Brice was set to perform with Carly Pearce at the 2020 CMA Awards on Nov. 11, 2020, which will be broadcast from Nashville, Tenn. On Nov. 5, 2020, Brice posted, "The #CMAawards is known for unforgettable collaborations. Watch Country Music's Biggest Night LIVE next Wednesday on ABC as I sing "I Hope You're Happy Now" With @carlypearce!" However, mere days before the award show, Brice's rep told the Associated Press that the singer had tested positive for coronavirus. As a result, he will not be performing at the 2020 CMA Awards. His rep added the Brice was "in good spirits and not experiencing any symptoms."

The statement from Brice's rep read, in part: "Lee would like to thank the CMAs and all of his incredible fans for his nominations and is wishing his fellow nominees an incredible evening celebrating the best of country music." Per the Associated Press, a "CMA spokesperson said Brice was tested and received his result before arriving onsite for any of show rehearsals or activities" in Nashville. Brice "will be isolating at home until he's cleared by a doctor," per his rep's statement.

Country stars will all be 'safely, in one room' for the 2020 CMAs

In light of safety protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic, most 2020 award shows featured virtual elements added in. Nevertheless, in a press release ahead of the 2020 CMA Awards, CMA CEO Sarah Trahern said (via People), "The 54th Annual CMA Awards will mark the first time the biggest names in Country Music will come together — safely, all in one room — this year."

There won't be any people in the audience, but Trahern promised an enjoyable show for all of the fans watching safely at home. She shared, "We are thrilled to have this incredible group of artists taking the stage at the CMA Awards this year! It is a privilege to bring these live performances to our viewing audience with the energy and excitement that the CMA Awards are known for."

Trahern added, "And although the show will feel a bit more intimate this year, we look forward to hosting our nominated artists and their guests as we celebrate the best of country music in a fully safe and physically distant environment." Aside from releasing a statement via his rep, as of this writing, Lee Brice hasn't commented on his coronavirus diagnosis. However, he did promote a sneak peak of his new song on Nov. 9, 2020.

The 54th Annual CMA Awards will air on Nov. 11, 2020, on ABC.
