What Happened To Cathy And Vivi-Anne From Dance Moms?

Fans of the Lifetime reality series "Dance Moms" are familiar with the show's alums, especially some of the original dancers from the earlier seasons, as many of them went on to find fame of their own.

JoJo Siwa built an empire and brand for herself and is arguably one of the most successful former "Dance Moms" stars. Maddie Ziegler shot to fame after starring in various Sia music videos, while her sister Mackenzie has a large following on TikTok. The other original cast members, including Chloe Lukasiak, Nia Sioux, Kendall Vertes, Kalani Hilliker, and Brooke and Paige Hyland, also have a strong following on social media or remain involved in the entertainment industry in some form.

One of the series' stars who tends to be forgotten, though, is Vivi-Anne Stein, along with her mother Cathy. While the mother-daughter duo were only a part of the Abby Lee Dance Company for a brief time, they were prominent in the show for their "rivalry" with Abby Lee Miller and the dance team after they left ALDC to go back to the Candy Apple's Dance Center. Here's what they're up to today.

Vivi-Anne is all grown up now, and went on to be a cheerleader

Cathy Nesbitt-Stein is the owner of the dance company Candy Apple's Dance Center in Canton, Ohio. The studio served as a competitor to Abby Lee Dance Company during the early seasons of the show, with Cathy herself portrayed as Abby Lee Miller's nemesis. Her daughter Vivi-Anne, whom she adopted from birth in 2004, was the subject of a lot of Abby's bullying.

Both Vivi-Anne and Cathy have large followings on social media, and from the pictures they both post, the pair seems to be doing good post-"Dance Moms." Based on Cathy's Instagram, it seems Vivi took on cheerleading in addition to dance, with the teenager cheering on her high school's team. In 2017, she also starred in the Candy Apple's production of "The Nutcracker" as Clara (per Life & Style).

Both Cathy and Vivi-Anne appear to live a relatively normal and happy life, which is probably a breath of fresh air after the drama of "Dance Moms."

Vivi-Anne still loves to dance

After Vivi-Anne Stein's run on the Lifetime show, she had dreams of being a dancer for the Disney theme parks. "One of the people that worked in the park contacted me and told me we would love to have her when she gets older," her mom, Cathy, told OK!. "That was really fun for her to hear." It's unclear whether or not those dreams are still there or have fizzled out over time.

Vivi-Anne continued to dance in competitions after "Dance Moms," though, and she's shown that she's improved her dancing skills drastically since the bee solo on the reality television show. She also got into tap dancing. According to the YouTube channel that posted Vivi-Anne's tap solo, she got 12th place in the competition and received a Standout Award for the routine.

Vivi-Anne seems to prefer keeping her life quiet and private as well. She started her own YouTube channel in 2016, but never updated it. Likewise with her Twitter account, she hasn't posted anything since 2016. The reality television show alum does have an active Instagram, though, and Cathy loves sharing photos of her daughter on her own Instagram page. And it looks like the mother-daughter duo is repairing relationships with the dance moms and Abby Lee Miller.

Cathy has reconnected with Dance Moms stars

Abby Lee Miller and Cathy Nesbitt-Stein used to be arch enemies on "Dance Moms," but have recently made efforts to repair their relationship. In November 2022, the two reunited at the Abby Lee Dance Company where Miller introduced Stein as her "dear friend." Stein later explained that when the show started getting bigger, everyone felt the need to entertain more for the camera, which led to her fallout with Miller. "Our relationship did take a toll," she revealed.

The ALDC dance instructor hasn't been the only person from the reality television show to show her love for Stein and her daughter Vivi-Anne. Christi Lukasiak revealed that Cathy might be her "favorite dance mom" in a YouTube reaction video. And even Lukasiak's daughter, Chloe, shared her thoughts on Cathy and Vivi-Anne in a separate YouTube reaction video. Chloe mentioned that Cathy and Vivi-Anne were the only two people she didn't know when they started filming the show, so it made sense to her that they made them the rivals.

In October 2020, Jill Vertes gave her opinion on the mother-daughter duo on the Lifetime show. "The producers loved Cathy and Vivi," she told Entertainment Tonight. She added that at the time, Vivi-Anne seemed uninterested in dance, so the whole purpose of having them on the show was for entertainment and drama.

Vivi-Anne Stein is a college student

Since making amends, it appears Cathy Nesbitt-Stein and Abby Lee Miller make it a point to catch up periodically. In June, Miller had Cathy as a guest on her podcast, "Leave It On The Dance Floor." During the episode, Cathy revealed to Miller that Vivi-Anne Stein had just graduated from high school, was set to attend Cleveland State University in the fall, and was planning to major in film and minor in dance. But that's not all. Cathy also divulged that Vivi-Anne was working towards a spot on the school's dance team.

The story goes that by the time Vivi-Anne committed to Cleveland State University, she had already missed auditions for the dance team. But after a firm pep talk from her mom, Vivi-Anne opted to reach out to the powers that be and ask for a chance to audition. Cathy claims that Vivi-Anne was initially met with some hesitation from the point person, but only 15 minutes later, she received an email asking her to attend a Zoom meeting. "So I don't know if you know, maybe the lady researched her," Cathy wondered out loud. Perhaps all those intense moments on "Dance Moms" paid off after all.

Cathy Nesbitt-Stein is an empty nester now

As for Cathy Nesbitt-Stein, she's slowly getting used to Vivi-Anne's new college life at Cleveland State University. "It's only about an hour away. I told her that I'll come up, I'll dress like her, we'll hang out at the bars together, and she was like, 'Um, no, no, Mom,'" she recalled on an episode of Abby Lee Miller's "Leave It On The Dance Floor" podcast. During a September 22 interview with fellow former "Dance Moms" cast member Melissa Gisoni, Cathy admitted that the separation had been "tough" on her. "She hasn't been home now since Labor Day," she revealed.

Still, Cathy quickly noted that Vivi-Anne was keeping very busy while away at school. "She had tryouts for something that I don't want to talk about just yet because we're hoping that, you know, it turns out well for her," she divulged as she emphatically crossed her fingers. Hey, once a dance mom, always a dance mom, we suppose.
