How Miranda Lambert Really Feels About Competing Against Carrie Underwood At The CMAs

Both Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert are at the top of the country music game. These women have been dropping massive musical hits for years and racking up the accolades. Between them, they have literally dozens of Grammy Awards, Country Music Awards, Academy of Country Music Awards, and so many more. It seems only fitting that both stars would be nominated for entertainer of the year at the 2020 Country Music Awards, held on Nov. 11, 2020 in Nashville.

What's perhaps so interesting about this year, though, is that it's the first time these two women have gone head to head in this category. Both have been nominated for this coveted award in the past, but neither has taken it home yet. In 2020, they're competing against Eric Church, Luke Combs, and Keith Urban, and of the five of them, only Urban has nabbed this award in the past.

In fact, this year is the first since 1979 that two female solo artists have been nominated for the CMAs' highest award. (Yes, you read that correctly.) In fact, Lambert has some thoughts on this monumental occasion, especially concerning Underwood.

Mirand Lambert calls Carrie Underwood a 'force'

Miranda Lamber told Entertainment Tonight ahead of the 2020 Country Music Awards that she's humbled to be nominated for entertainer of the year alongside the competition, especially Carrie Underwood. "[Underwood is] a force and I've always been a huge supporter and believer, and was very vocal last year about how I thought she should take it home. So if she does this year, I'll be the first one out of my seat," Lambert said.

We love supportive women! The country music scene has historically not been an easy place for women to find equal footing with men. Radio stations play female artists less frequently than their male counterparts, according to NBC News. The women of country music have banded together to support each other and are cheering each other on rather than viewing the other female singers as competition. Case in point: Lambert is rooting for Underwood at the CMAs despite competing for the same award.

That's not to say Lambert isn't hoping for some trophies of her own. She's up for seven awards and is hoping to take at least one home for her 37th birthday, which she celebrated the day before the show.
