Cardi B Faces Bold Accusation Over Her Latest Magazine Cover
Cardi B is facing backlash for her latest magazine cover shoot. The rapper was pinned as Footwear News' cover girl thanks to her new Reebok collaboration.
The cover in question features the "Bodak Yellow" artist in a red Georges Hobeika outfit and red Reebok sneakers, according to E! News. The site also reports that the original cover featured Cardi with eight arms behind her as homage to the Hindu goddess Durga.
The rapper's Hindu fans did not take the homage lightly, calling out Cardi for cultural appropriation and expressing disappointment that the Invasion of Privacy star would mock their culture.
The magazine apologized for the cover on Instagram in a statement that read, "We posted content from our exclusive Cardi B cover shoot. One of the images was intended to pay homage to Hindu goddess Durga, and our intent was to show a powerful woman. However, we realize we were not considerate of certain cultural and religious perspectives and how this could be perceived as deeply offensive... We take full accountability for this oversight and we apologize."
Now Cardi is stepping in to apologize for not researching the Hindu goddess prior to the shoot.

Cardi B is never one to steer clear of drama, and always directly addresses her fans when rumors or backlash occurs. After fans called out the rapper for culturally appropriating Hindu culture in her depiction of Durga for the cover of Footwear News, as per E!, Cardi took to Instagram to apologize for her ignorance in the shoot.
According to E!, the rapper appeared via Instagram stories and revealed to fans she was told she would be representing a goddess that "represents strength, femininity and liberation" which sounded appealing to Cardi.
"And I thought that it was dope, but if people think I'm offending their culture or their religion I want to say I'm sorry," said the "Money" rapper. "That was not my intent. I do not like disrespecting nobody's religion. I wouldn't like people to offend my religion."
The "WAP" singer went on to promise she will do more research in the future. Footwear News changed the cover after the backlash to an alternative photo of Cardi.
