The Truth About Jennifer Lopez And Nicole Kidman's Friendship

When Jennifer Lopez was honored with the People's Icon Award at the 2020 People's Choice Awards, a few special individuals were on hand to tell her how much they love her. Two-time Oscar winner Renee Zellweger gushed over how much Lopez has broken the boundaries in her career. Shotgun Wedding co-star Armie Hammer called her a role model before presenting her with the award. Lopez's kids, Max and Emme, popped in to tell her they love her. And fellow superstar Nicole Kidman called in all the way from Australia to surprise her friend.

Kidman was quick to rave about Lopez's talent and work ethic, calling her "the true definition of an icon." While lauding Lopez, Kidman recalled when she and her sister went to see her perform in Las Vegas, a story she previously shared with ET. Not only did she say the concert was incredible, but she said that when they went backstage to meet Lopez afterward, the "Waiting for Tonight" singer was incredibly gracious and a delight to spend time with — not to mention still full of energy, despite just doing a whole wildly demanding show!

Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez have been pals for years

Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez actually go back a bit. Kidman's husband, Keith Urban, worked with Lopez for three seasons of American Idol. It was after fellow judges Urban and Lopez forged a friendship on the reality competition series that Kidman headed to Las Vegas to catch the All I Have residency. Kidman and Lopez have also been spotted at industry events over the years chatting and enjoying each other's company.

And despite what some rumors might want you to think, it seems like there actually  hasn't been any drama between Lopez and Kidman. According to Gossip Cop, a source claimed to Woman's Day in early 2020 that Kidman had warned Lopez "to stay away from Keith Urban," alleging that the two judges were "flirty" back in their Idol days. However, Gossip Cop debunked the rumors, and it's safe to say that after the glowing speech Kidman made for Lopez at the People's Choice Awards — and a promise for a hug when COVID-19 is over — that the two truly are friends with a large amount of respect for each other.
