The Truth About Keshia Knight Pulliam's Engagement

Actor Keshia Knight Pulliam, best known for her role as Ruby in the classic sitcom, The Cosby Show, confirmed her engagement to fellow actor Brad James in December 2020. Of course, the couple is over the moon with happiness, but the road to true love wasn't exactly easy for Pulliam.

The star was briefly married to former NFL player Ed Hartwell, and it did not end well. Mere months after their wedding, they filed for divorce, but the drama didn't stop there. In 2016 Pulliam gave an eye-opening interview about the split, during which she dropped some major bombshells. Pulliam was pregnant when Hartwell filed for divorce, and Hartwell supposedly demanded a paternity test for their daughter, as the actor told Entertainment Tonight. According to Pulliam, she wasn't unfaithful — she claims Hartwell was — but she tried her best to make the marriage work, nonetheless. Although Pulliam said she was blindsided by divorce, she also expressed relief that the situation was over. "I have no desire to continue to be married to him," she told the outlet. "I'm doing this one interview, and I'm done. I'm not going to continue to revisit, regurgitate, but I'm not going to continue to allow people to tell blatant lies about me."

Four years later, Pulliam has done just that, and she is ready for a new chapter with a new man. Want to know more? We reveal all of the sweet details after the jump.

Keshia Knight Pulliam is ready for a fresh start

Keshia Knight Pulliam and Brad James' love story was like something out of a romance movie. We mean that literally — they met on the set of Pride and Prejudice: Atlanta in 2019. "Honestly we just hit it off," Pulliam told People after announcing their engagement. "We had a lot of downtime; there was a lot going on filming that project. So there were times where we would all be sitting in the cast seats or the van just talking."

Like Pulliam, this won't be James' first marriage, but the actor isn't worried about that. "I think it's better when you've been married before because you're very clear in what you don't desire," she explained. "It makes it so much clearer when you see what it is you do want." Armed with lessons from the past, Pulliam and James are ready to take the plunge.

In early December, James popped the question in Atlanta with a custom-designed diamond ring. The couple threw an engagement party for their closest friends and family, and Pulliam's daughter was in attendance, as well. Her ex, however, was not. Out with the old, in with the new.
