The Truth About LeToya Luckett And Tommicus Walker's Split

LeToya Luckett, an original member of Destiny's Child, announced that she and her husband, Tommicus Walker, are calling it quits. They were married on Dec. 10, 2017 in an intimate ceremony in their native state of Texas.

The couple had originally met under unique circumstances when a friend played matchmaker to introduce the two, but with a small twist. Speaking to ESSENCE about their courtship, Luckett revealed that she and Walker were set up through their friend, and the duo communicated with each other for weeks before meeting face-to-face. "Immediately the chemistry was there," the Lady Love singer told the publication. Apparently, Walker was in the dark about who she was before they finally met.

On Jan. 4, 2019, the married couple had their first child, a daughter named Gianna Iman Walker. Luckett made an announcement on Twitter by posting a photo of her newborn grabbing her hand. In the tweet, she added, "Our lives are forever changed."

As reported by Page Six, the couple had their second child together, son, Tysun Wolf Walker, only months before their announced split in September 2020. The Back 2 Life singer uploaded an animated video of her son's footprints on Instagram.

Unfortunately, the couple's next major announcement on social media was not joyous news.

The couple announced their split on social media

On Jan. 11, 2021, both LeToya Luckett and her soon-to-be ex-husband, Tommicus Walker, took to social media to let fans know they were breaking up. As covered by Us Weekly, the one-time Destiny's Child member uploaded a two-slide post to Instagram. "After very prayerful consideration, Tommicus and I have decided to get a divorce," she wrote in the first slide, "It is my deepest desire for us to be loving co-parents and keep a peaceful environment out of respect for our children." Luckett then added a family photo of the former couple with their two shared children.

Just prior to going public with the divorce, the singer had openly fawned over her stepdaughter, Madison, with a heartwarming Instagram post to commemorate her birthday. "It's so amazing to watch you grow & blossom into a beautiful & sweet young lady. You're so smart & beyond your years," she wrote.

The same day as Luckett's breakup post, Walker added his own that closely mirrored his former partner's sentiments. "LeToya and I have decided to divorce. This was a very difficult decision," he wrote in an Instagram post. "We happily remain committed as caring friends with great love and respect for one another."

Although the former couple has a difficult time ahead, they appear to be putting their family first. We wish them all the best going forward.
