The Truth About RuPaul's Drag Race's Olivia Lux

Season 13 of RuPaul's Drag Race premiered on Jan. 1, 2021, ringing in the new year with some fierce competition and astounding talent all around. There's a lot at stake, with a cash prize of $100,000 and the coveted title of "America's Next Drag Superstar." It's a big prize, and the casting guidelines are super strict! Season 13 is extra exciting because it boasts some drag icons, including the first trans contestant Gottmilk and strong competitor and Los Angeles-based Symone.

One newcomer we're loving is Olivia Lux, who lives in Brooklyn, New York but originally hails from New Jersey. She was only 26 years old when she joined Season 13 of RuPaul's Drag Race. Olivia Lux shared in her Meet the Queens video how she picked her name. She chose "Olivia" for Olivia Pope from Scandal, because she's "a fierce, Black woman [and a] leading lady." She then said, "'Lux' comes from the Latin word for 'light' because I light up every single room I walk into." That's an awesome back story for such a catchy name!

But this is just the beginning. Keep reading to discover all the wonderful details about this superstar!

Olivia Lux only auditioned once to be on RuPaul's Drag Race

Olivia Lux shared in her Meet the Queens video that she has a special connection to judge Michelle Visage because they both hail from New Jersey. "Jersey sisters in the house," Olivia Lux said. Maybe that'll give her an edge in the competition? But judging from what we've seen, she doesn't need any hometown connections.

Olivia Lux can dance, sing, play the piano, and slays with her looks. In her Meet the Queens video, Olivia Lux described her fashion as "bright, it has a lot of little stones, sparkling... sequins, bodysuits, silhouettes, big, big, pretty dresses." Yes! We are here for this!

She's a huge hit on Instagram, with a ton of followers, and it's no wonder: Her social media presence is as fun as it is stunning, with clips of her dancing, cute throwback photos, and her edgy, colorful drag.

Amazingly, Olivia Lux is fairly new to drag. She shared that the year prior to landing a spot on the show she hadn't even been doing drag, so she jokingly called herself "a fetus" in the competition. But she's obviously got talent because she only auditioned once. But just because she's new doesn't mean Olivia Lux won't bring a fierce competition. She's planning on snagging that crown!
