Andy Reid's Son Involved In Tragic Accident Ahead Of Super Bowl

The Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the Super Bowl LV on Feb. 7, 2021, and it's fair to assume nerves are running high as game day nears. It's an even more exciting showdown as two of the most famous quarterbacks in the NFL will go head-to-head: Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs against Tom Brady of the Buccaneers.

The entire event is shaping up to be incredible, as The Weeknd is the scheduled halftime show performer, and the somewhat reclusive artist will be front and center at the event. Not only that, but the National Anthem will be sung by R&B singer Jazmine Sullivan alongside country music star Eric Church, according to NBC Sports.

Amid all of the excitement, news broke on Feb. 5, 2021, regarding a tragic car accident involving the son of the Chiefs' head coach, Andy Reid. Here's everything we know about the incident involving Reid's son, Britt, who is the Chiefs' outside linebackers coach.

Will Britt Reid be in attendance at the Super Bowl?

On Feb. 5, 2021, Kansas City's 41 Action News reported that the Kansas City Chiefs' outside linebackers coach Britt Reid was involved in a multi-vehicle accident. The accident occurred on the evening of Feb. 4, 2021, on Interstate 435 in Kansas City.

Here's what reportedly happened: A car had run out of gas and was "sitting" on the interstate entrance ramp. The driver called a family member to help, and that family member had parked in front of the disabled car. Reid allegedly hit the stranded car and then the rear of the second car, the outlet reported. The driver of the disabled vehicle, who was in the car when the crash happened, was not injured. However, two children who were in the second car are both injured. The 5-year-old has life-threatening injuries, and the 4-year-old has non-life-threatening injuries, the outlet reported. Reid also suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Andy Reid's son told officers he "had two to three drinks" before driving and had also taken prescribed Adderall, the 41 Action News stated.

The Chiefs has released a statement about the accident. "We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved," it reads in part, according to USA Today. Although the team has not confirmed anything as of this writing, NFL reporter Jason La Canfora claimed Reid will not join the team in Tampa, Fla., for the Super Bowl.

Britt Reid was previously arrested on road rage related charges

According to court documents obtained by FOX4 News, an officer at the scene of the multi-vehicle accident conducted a sobriety test on Britt Reid and "saw four clues of impairment." Officers also requested a search warrant to draw blood from Reid at a local hospital to determine whether driver impairment was a factor in the crash.

The Chiefs' outside linebackers coach has run into a few problems on the road in the past. In early 2007, Reid pleaded guilty to drug, assault, and weapon charges stemming from a road rage incident in which he flashed a gun at another motorist (per ESPN). Reid was sentenced to eight to 23 months in prison and five years probation. Reid also pleaded guilty to DUI and drug charges from a separate incident in August 2007, in which he drove into a shopping cart while leaving a sporting goods store, per ESPN.

As of this report, no charges have been filed against Reid in the case of the multi-vehicle accident, per Sporting News.
