Camilla Gives An Update On Prince Philip's Condition

Prince Philip was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 16, 2021 after he was feeling "unwell," according to Us Weekly. Shortly after the news of his hospitalization broke, a Buckingham Palace spokesperson told the outlet, "The Duke of Edinburgh will remain in the hospital, on a doctor's recommendation, for a few days."

On March 2, another statement from Buckingham Palace (via BBC) provided an update on the 99-year-old husband of Queen Elizabeth II. The statement revealed that Philip had been transported to a different hospital — St. Bartholomew's — where he would continue to be "treated for an infection" and doctors would do some "testing and observation for a pre-existing heart condition."

While this all sounds grim, the Duke of Edinburgh is "responding to treatment" and "remains comfortable." And on March 3, his daughter-in-law Camilla Parker Bowles provided another rather uplifting update. In an interview with ITV, Camilla shared that her father-in-law is doing "slightly better," according to People. Keep reading to find out what else Camilla shared about Philip's current condition.

Prince Philip has spent more than two weeks in the hospital

Prince Philip has spent the past 15 nights in a hospital bed, and while he is doing "slightly better," Camilla Parker Bowles also admitted that he "hurts at moments." She added, "we keep our fingers crossed." This is not the first time that the duke has been hospitalized in recent years. As ABC News pointed out, he was also admitted to the hospital in December 2019. At the time, the palace revealed that Philip was admitted to King Edward VII's Hospital for a "planned treatment of a pre-existing condition." The palace did not give any additional details about what that pre-existing condition might have been.

As Philip has gotten older, his public appearances have become quite rare. According to Express, he made one public appearance over the last year, when he handed the British Army Rifles Regiment to his daughter-in-law Camilla. The event took place at Windsor Castle in July 2020.

Philip is expected to remain in the hospital at least through the end of the week.
