Why Demi Lovato Wants To Completely Shave Her Head

Like anyone who enters a new chapter of their lives, sometimes a change is much needed. For many of us, we aim to change little things of our appearance — especially our hair. Demi Lovato can relate, as we've seen her interesting hair journey play out in the public eye. In 2014, Lovato debuted a new hairdo, sporting pink tresses and a half shaved head. As a result, the singer received negative reactions for her new appearance at the time, per Page Six. In a March 2021 interview with Glamour Magazine, the singer recalled being fearful of expressing her true identity. She told the magazine, "My fans react when I color my hair. If they didn't like it, I saw it."

Despite previous backlash, Lovato is living out her hairstyle dreams. In January 2021, the "Anyone" singer debuted her pink pixie cut to kick off the new year, per Allure. As for her next step with her hair, the singer is looking to shave it all off and rock the bald look. Here's why.

Demi Lovato's desire to shave her head is symbolic

In addition to her constantly evolving hair journey, fans have witnessed Demi Lovato come into her own identity. Following her split from her ex-fiancé Max Ehrich in 2020, Lovato revealed she came to a revelation about her sexuality in a March 2021 interview with Glamour Magazine. "When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am," the former Disney star told the publication. "This past year I was engaged to a man, and when it didn't work, I was like, 'This is a huge sign.' I thought I was going to spend my life with someone. Now that I wasn't going to, I felt this sense of relief that I could live my truth."

Much like the end of Lovato's engagement, Lovato's hair also symbolized the realization of her sexuality. The "Heart Attack" crooner's choice to cut her hair short in late 2020 was "a symbolic shedding of the heteronormative box she was confined in for years." As mentioned above, her end goal is to shave her head completely bald as a symbol of her identity. "I know who I am and what I am, but I'm just waiting until a specific timeline to come out to the world as what I am." she explained to Glamour. We're rooting for you Demi!
