How Prince Harry Just Honored Princess Diana

Prince Harry recently opened up about how Princess Diana played a pivotal role in his escape from the U.K. In a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, the Duke of Sussex revealed that his mother played a pivotal role in how he and his family were able to move to the U.S. He divulged that had it not been for the money that Princess Diana had left him, they wouldn't have been able to survive.

The duke also elaborated about how his mother would have reacted to what happened after his marriage to Meghan Markle. "I think she would feel very angry with how this has panned out and very sad. But ultimately, all she'd ever want is for us to be happy," the royal told Oprah (via People). Prince Harry also felt that his mother foresaw the fallout and added, "I think she saw it coming ... I certainly felt her presence throughout this whole process."

It would then make sense then that the duke would show his appreciation for his mother on Mother's Day in 2021.

Despite being in the U.S., Prince Harry had flowers sent to his mother's grave

Prince Harry may have left the U.K., but he will always have roots back home and with his late mother. The duke honored her by arranging for flowers to be placed on her grave on Mother's Day, March 14. Writer Omid Scobie, who co-authored Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family, tweeted that the floral arrangement was laid at the Spencer family estate.

Princess Diana has certainly been on her son's mind and the flowers are a sweet gesture on his part. In the Oprah Winfrey interview, the duke revealed that he had been comparing his and Meghan Markle's situation with what Princess Diana was put through. "You know, for me, I'm just really relieved and happy to be sitting here, talking to you with my wife by my side because I can't begin to imagine what it must've been like for [my mother] going through this process by herself all those years ago," Harry said (via People).

Thanks to Diana, Harry and Meghan are enjoying their growing family in a new country, and they are grateful.
