Why You Recognize The Song In One A Day's One Body Commerical

It's 2021 and not only do we brandish close-fitting masks and religiously sanitize our hands, but many of us pop a daily regimen of vitamins (including Hailey Bieber who believes in prenatal vitamins). With the third and fourth waves of the deadly virus looming, the trajectory of health-focused habits is set to continue well into the year and even beyond. And big pharmaceutics companies, such as Bayer, are cashing in.

The One A Day multivitamin has been around since 1940. When it first launched, it was extremely popular because it promised a daily dose of vitamins A, C, D, and three B-vitamins with its single-pill formulation, per Science History. Fast-forward to 2021, and the company has switched tactics. Their latest One A Day's One Body ad campaign shows a reel of energetic, happy people from all walks of life in a short 15-second commercial.

The vitamin commercial also has a foot-tapping tune with upbeat lyrics. The familiar melody is a real earworm, and just like the song in the Scotts Miracle-Gro commercial, you just can't seem to place it. Keep scrolling to find out why the tune from the One A Day's One Body commercial seems so familiar.

Nina Simone celebrates life in this song

Seen any musicals lately? "Got my hair, got my head, got my brains, got my ears, got my heart, got my soul, got my mouth, I got life!" the singer belts out. The song dates back to 1968 and is called "Ain't Got No/I Got Life" by Nina Simone. The legendary songstress, who was the subject of a biopic starring Zoe Saldana, took two songs from the musical Hair ("Ain't Got No" and "I Got Life") and created a soul mashup, per Legacy Recordings.

According to The Guardian, Simone was a singer and civil rights activist in the 1950s and 1960s. In fact, John Legend sang "Feeling Good," made famous by her, at President Joe Biden's inauguration. "Ain't Got No/I Got Life" begins on a melancholic note, with lyrics such as "I ain't got no home, ain't got no shoes, ain't got no money, ain't got no class," but midway Simone does an about-turn and decides to sing about what she does have. The "I Got Life" portion is a celebration of the simple things to be grateful for. The song quickly climbed the U.K. singles charts, reaching the No. 2 spot, according to The Guardian.

After 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic, Bayer's One A Day's One Body commercial encapsulates gratitude for life. And that should be a daily habit.
