This Was Savannah Guthrie's Most Embarrassing Interview

Savannah Guthrie is one of the most well-known and respected journalists in her field, but that doesn't prevent her from having embarrassing interviews. The journalist has lived quite an accomplished life. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she graduated cum laude from the University of Arizona in 1993. Guthrie scored the highest on the Arizona bar exam (out of over 600 people) in July 2002. At first, she had plans to be a lawyer and dabbled in the field, but her career switched to journalism. Guthrie served as NBC News' White House correspondent from 2008 until 2011, and producers asked her to join the Today show's third hour in 2011. Soon after, she replaced Ann Curry and assumed the seat next to Matt Lauer.

Guthrie also famously announced on air that NBC was firing Matt Lauer, citing "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace." "As I'm sure you can imagine, we are devastated, and we are still processing all of this. And I will tell you right now, we do not know more than what I just shared with you," Guthrie said in 2017. "But we will be covering this story as reporters, as journalists. I'm sure we will be learning more details in the hours and days to come, and we promise we will share that with you." While that had to be a tense moment, it was not the most awkward of her career.

Savannah Guthrie's most awkward interview is surprising

One of Savannah Guthrie's most embarrassing interviews was with a reality star. She spilled the tea to Andy Cohen on an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, where she appeared with Matt Lauer. A caller asked the television personality if she could do one interview differently, which one would it be. Surprisingly, it was one with Keeping Up with the Kardashians star Khloé Kardashian. "There had been these rumors that her father, Robert Kardashian, wasn't really her father," she explained. "I didn't really want to ask it, because it was kind of like, probing and personal and intrusive, but I was new. And I was like, 'Ugh, I feel like they want me to.'"

Guthrie went through almost the entire interview with the question in the back of her mind, but she kept putting it off out of fear. "So I delayed and delayed and delayed," she dished. "And they were like, 'five seconds, four...' and I was like, 'And is Robert Kardashian really your father?'" Khloé answered that he was indeed her father, and then the program cut to commercial. "That was embarrassing," Guthrie recalled. "So I would redo that."

Of course, she was not the only one who questioned who Khloé about her father, but that surely didn't make it any less cringe-worthy.
