Here's Why You Should Be Excited For Serayah's New Music - Exclusive

With her performance as Tiana Brown on Empire, Serayah spent six seasons showing the world just how much of a triple threat she is. As Lucious Lyon and Cookie's most promising R&B-pop signee, the actor made busting a move look effortless, gave us some certified bops, and always kept Empire Entertainment guessing throughout her tenure on the show. Now that the hit Fox musical drama has wrapped, she's ready to take on the music world not as a character, but as herself.

In an exclusive interview with Nicki Swift, the multi-hyphenate, who nabbed her first leading role in Lifetime's "Envy: A Seven Deadly Sins Story," revealed that she's "looking forward to releasing some new music" in the summer of 2021. Although she's already dropped a handful of tracks — including 2020's Blac Youngsta collab "Miss You" and the Simyai team-up "Never Be The Same" — she's been "recording a lot" recently and is especially excited to be getting more personal this time around.

"The sound is eclectic, but it's definitely me," she told us of her upcoming release. "What I'm excited for is it's telling more of my story."

Serayah's eyeing the next phase of her career

Serayah and her Empire character Tiana Brown might share some of the same sonic sensibilities, but with the show behind her, the California-born actor feels like she's entering "the next step" in her career. When it comes to the new tunes arriving in summer 3021, Serayah told us she had more of a say in everything from "the look," to the sound and she's "excited for people to meet that side." As for what that sounds like, fans can expect something along an "R&B wave" with some pop influence. "I love all music, from rock to blues to alternative, and everything," Serayah explained. "So my main thing is I just want hits."

If you've been looking for an excuse to get out there and dance this summer, it seems like the "Favorite Son" actor has got you covered. Although she was tight-lipped about whom she's been busy collaborating with, Serayah confirmed to us that she's got some "rap features" and "pop features" in the books. And while fans anxiously await her next musical project, they can revel in yet another side of her in "Envy: A Seven Deadly Sins Story" on Lifetime.

"Envy: A Seven Deadly Sins Story" is now showing on Lifetime.
