How Much Is Matthew Perry Worth?

Actor Matthew Perry became a massive success after his run on the show "Friends" and he's known for his witty sense of humor. He realized as a child that he loved acting, although it took a while for him to land the gig that would ultimately make him a star and allow him to accrue a rather impressive net worth.

Biography detailed that Perry was born in Massachusetts, the son of actor John Bennett Perry and his wife Suzanne. The couple split when he was a baby, and he moved to Ottawa, Canada, with his mom. Perry grew up loving both acting and tennis, and as a teenager, he moved in with his father in California.

From a young age, Perry had his sights set on acting and fame. He told The New York Times in 2002, "There was steam coming out of my ears, I wanted to be famous so badly." However, the actor didn't anticipate the challenges that would eventually come with fame. "You want the attention, you want the bucks, and you want the best seat in the restaurant. I didn't think what the repercussions would be," he admitted.

His determination eventually took him to his career-making role in "Friends" — but what did all this mean for his wallet? Let's find out.

Matthew Perry experienced massive 'Friends' success

Matthew Perry became a superstar thanks to "Friends." In 1994, when he read for "Friends," Perry "desperately — desperately — needed the money," according to Entertainment Weekly. Perry's salary per episode for Season 1 was $22,500, but by the end, he made $1 million per episode, per Business Insider

"When it happens, it's kind of like Disneyland for a while," Perry told The New York Times in 2002 of his incredible success with "Friends."

"For me it lasted about eight months, this feeling of 'I've made it, I'm thrilled, there's no problem in the world.' And then you realize that it doesn't accomplish anything, it's certainly not filling any holes in your life" the actor added.

Ultimately, doing 10 seasons of "Friends" helped Perry accrue a net worth of $120 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth. In August 2020, he spent some of that wealth on a $6 million place in the Pacific Palisades area of California (per Dirt). The nearly 3,000-square-feet contemporary abode was built on a hillside and has floor-to-ceiling windows.

Perry's also admitted he has a significant "Batman" obsession, having told Jimmy Kimmel he keeps a room in his home filled with memorabilia from the movie franchise. He explained, "I'm an insomniac, so in the middle of the night I just go on eBay and buy all this 'Batman' stuff and just throw it in a room." Perry then jokingly insisted of his collection, "But, it's not dorky." Good thing he has so many millions to buy all his toys!
