The Celebrity Queen Elizabeth Was Thrilled To Meet
Queen Elizabeth has met thousands of people during her nearly-70 year reign on the throne — like United States presidents, singers like Elton John and One Direction, iconic actors such as Marilyn Monroe and Ava Gardiner, and even members of the general public.
Meeting the queen is no easy task, and there's certain rules to keep in mind once you're in her presence, according to the BBC. Guests can bow only their heads, but do have the option to curtsy. When they are greeting the queen, she must be addressed as "Your Majesty" or "Ma'am." Punctuality is key and following her lead is important, according to the site. This means only speaking if she speaks directly to you, sitting once she sits and eating after she begins her meal.
Leaving before the queen and touching her without approval are other things to consider, per the outlet. Although there are no "obligatory codes of behavior" when you're with the queen (via the royal website), it seems that President Joe Biden broke protocol when he did not remove his sunglasses. Former butler Grant Harrold told Newsweek: "If you're meeting the queen face-to-face, there's no sunglasses or anything like that at all because eye contact is quite important with any introduction. It doesn't matter who you are, even royals remove sunglasses when they meet royals."
Although meeting notable figures is just another day for the queen, there was one celebrity who she was over the moon to meet. Keep reading for more details.
Queen Elizabeth couldn't stop smiling when she met David Beckham
Queen Elizabeth remains stoic at all times, but she couldn't hide her smile when she met David Beckham in June 2018, according to Travel and Leisure.
Beckham was with the royal at the time to celebrate the Queen's Young Leaders, "a group of emerging change-makers from across the Commonwealth of 53 nations loosely linked to the U.K.," according to People. The queen was all smiles when she shook his hand and the soccer star grinned back at her. He seemed happy at the event, telling the outlet, "They are incredible people. It's a great thing to be part of — to be around young kids and young people that have got really bright futures and aspirations to become great leaders."
Although the queen appeared starstruck, this isn't the first time the two have met, per the outlet. They both attended the same event in 2015 and 2016 and Beckham still can't believe he hangs out with the queen, according to People. "Just being here, it gives me goosebumps just driving through the gate. I've been here a couple of times now, and every time it is very special," he said.
