The Truth About Alex Rodriguez's Relationship With Cameron Diaz

Cameron Diaz has been happily married to Good Charlotte's Benji Madden for so long it's hard to remember a time when she was with anyone else. And Alex Rodriguez was with Jennifer Lopez for so long and so publicly it's hard to remember his dating history before he got together with Jenny from the Block. But Diaz and Rodriguez had been dating for a while before the public even found out.

Diaz and Madden have been married since 2014 and have proven to be one of the most solid couples in Hollywood, per Us Weekly. Diaz and Madden started dating in May 2014, after Madden's sister-in-law Nicole Richie introduced them. They got engaged in December 2014 and married in early January 2015. In late 2019, they welcomed their daughter Raddix and Diaz can't stop gushing about motherhood. "It's just amazing," she told Jimmy Fallon (via Hello). "It's the best thing that ever happened to both Benj and I. We're just so happy."

As for Rodriguez, well, he's seemingly still reeling from his split from JLo, if renting a Hamptons house near hers and hanging out with Ben Affleck's ex is any indication. Let's look back on a more innocent time when Diaz and Rodriguez nearly broke the internet with news of their relationship.

Alex Rodriguez and Cameron Diaz had a year-long fling

Back in 2010, Alex Rodriguez and Cameron Diaz dated for a little more than a year. They were notoriously low-key for two people with so much fame; they never disclosed how they met or when exactly they started dating. However, E! News reported that they were seen getting very flirty with each other at a pre-Super Bowl party thrown by talent agency CAA in Miami in February 2010.

The couple were absolute pros at keeping their relationship under the radar — they not only arrived at parties separately, they avoided each other at the party while being observed by others. But, as People pointed out, they kept within each other's view while avoiding each other. Rodriguez and Diaz didn't even officially confirm that they were dating until June 2011, more than a year into their relationship and just one month before they broke up for the first time, per People. They reunited after a few weeks and then split for good in September 2011, per another report from People.

Why did it end? They were both focused on their careers. Diaz was an in-demand actor back then (she retired from acting in 2018) and Rodriguez was battling injuries and wanted to focus on his baseball game. Still, after they split, Rodriguez called Diaz, per Us Weekly, "one of the greatest human beings I've ever met, and just an amazing light."
