What Karina Garcia From My 600-Lb Life Has Been Up To

One of the saddest "My 600-Lb Life" stories was the tale of Karina Garcia. When she came to Dr. Now, she weighed 633 pounds and, as she revealed, it was due to her childhood. "I was very sick as a child," she said during her episode. "I had bad asthma. So, I was in and out of the hospital with asthma attacks." But, by the age of 6, her asthma was finally under control.

The problem was, she was expected to work long hours to pay off the resultant medical debt, and this — combined with her habit of self-comforting with food — caused her to gain weight. "I really just wanted a little attention. I wanted a hug, but [my parents] were too busy to give it, so food was my hug. Before school and with my allowance, I would buy junk food: chips, soda, cookies, cupcakes," she shared. "Food was always there to comfort me no matter what."

So, what has Karina Garcia been up to since her "My 600-Lb Life" episode in February 2018? Let's take a look.

Karina Garcia's post-TV life has included controversy

Unfortunately, all of Karina Garcia's hard work got overshadowed by the alleged romance she had with the ex-husband of another "My 600-Lb Life" cast member.

According to Starcasm, Gilbert Donovan was seen on Season 4 of the hit TLC show, and fans will remember him as the husband of Lupe Samano, who also went to Dr. Now to lose some weight. Although Donovan was initially supportive of his then-wife, he tried pressuring her to have intercourse after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. This resulted in Lupe suffering some injuries, per Inquisitr. Lupe also claimed that Gilbert was cheating on her, and she ultimately kicked him to the curb.

That arguably brings up the Karina connection. According to Karina and Gilbert, Karina reached out to him because she was looking for a weight-loss buddy. When she started appearing on his Facebook Live videos, fans of the show began speculating that the two were having an affair. Although they initially denied being together, the duo seemingly confirmed their status as a couple in August 2019. However, they haven't posted a pic together since 2020 — so who knows where they truly stand!
