Supermarket Sweep Season 2 Release Date, Host, And How To Watch

For the last few years, reboots have been the name of the game in Hollywood. From movies to TV shows, a plethora of classics have been given a more modern twist. We got the female-led "Ghostbusters" reboot, the next generation of "Gossip Girl," and the upcoming "Sex and the City" sequel, just to name a few. And game shows have been getting the revival treatment as of late too.

ABC brought back the '70s classic "Match Game" in 2016 with Alec Baldwin hosting, per IMDb. "Weakest Link" came back on NBC, this time hosted by Jane Lynch, in late 2020. Around the same time, ABC launched its revival of the popular game show "Supermarket Sweep." Originated in the '60s but popularized (and brought back) in the '90s, "Supermarket Sweep" is part quiz show and part frantic grocery shopping, per Eater. According to the outlet, teams of two contestants race around a grocery store choosing items based on quiz questions, and the teams that win the first round go on to a final round.

Season 1 of this game show revival was hosted by Leslie Jones and went so well that Season 2 is premiering this fall. Here is everything we know.

When does it come out?

According to the show's official Facebook page, Season 2 of "Supermarket Sweep" premieres on September 26. Yes! Like Season 1, which began on October 18, 2020 (via IMDb), the show will air on Sundays. Season 1 had just ten episodes, according to IMDb. It's unclear how many episodes Season 2 will have, but it will likely have at least ten, if not more, considering the success of Season 1 and how quickly they've carted in Season 2!

The format of the show is likely to be the same too. As we previously mentioned, each episode shows two games with a different set of six contestants. The contestants, competing in teams of two, answer questions and riddles pertaining to grocery products to earn extra time during the sweep and beat out their opponents. During the sweep, the contestants frantically run around the store with carts trying to pick up all the items on the host's shopping list. The winning team from each game goes on to compete in the Super Sweep for the chance to win $100,000.

Is Leslie Jones coming back?

Former "Saturday Night Live" star Leslie Jones hosted Season 1 of "Supermarket Sweep" and appears to be returning for Season 2. Jones is tagged in all the tweets on the show's official Twitter, including one promoting the new season premiere: "We're READY for Fall and more importantly the #SupermarketSweep season premiere..." the tweet read, with Jones' handle tagged at the end.

According to the trailer for Season 1, Jones is also an executive producer on the show. "A long time ago, I auditioned for the show," she reveals in the trailer. "All I thought was, 'Hey, I ain't got no money, maybe I could get on this show and become famous.' This was gonna be my show."

Jones continued to talk about why she enjoys hosting the show. "It's like one of those game shows where you go, 'I can do that.' Who doesn't know how to shop?" She went on to say, "What I want audiences to feel is the joy. The joy of seeing regular people win $100,000."

Where can I watch it?

Just like Season 1, Season 2 of "Supermarket Sweep" will air on ABC, per TV Series Finale. You can also watch a live stream on ABC.com with a valid cable subscription. Like most ABC shows, episodes will be available to stream online after they air, again with a valid cable subscription.

Since ABC is an over-the-air network, though, the show is easy to watch even without a cable subscription. As long as you have a TV and an antenna, you can watch ABC and all the other terrestrial networks free of charge. Hulu subscribers will also be able to catch the episodes after they air, with the banner on the show's official Facebook advertising the option to stream on Hulu. All 10 episodes of Season 1 are also available to stream there.

And if you're looking for a throwback, select episodes of the '90s edition of "Supermarket Sweep" are available to stream on Netflix
