Harry Styles Confirms Debut Solo Single

Harry Styles is singlehandedly breaking the Internet this week.

Styles took to Instagram on March 31 to announce the name of his debut solo single, "Sign of the Times". Some Twitter users were quick to point out that the One Direction member announced his single on the 30th anniversary of Prince's 1987 album, Sign 'O' The Times. Although it might simply be a nod to the iconic star, the title might have a deeper meaning. Sign 'O' The Times marked Prince's first album after his band, The Revolution, disbanded and this music would also mark Styles' first solo endeavor. It might be purely coincidental, but Styles seems to be making a lot of subtle statements with his upcoming project including the fact that he made his announcement on the exact day that Zayn Malik left One Direction in 2015. The singer also shared a picture of the artwork for the single which shows him looking at a sunset while sitting in water.

This announcement comes just days after the 23-year-old singer caused mass hysteria among One Direction fans with the release of a mysterious teaser that aired during The Voice U.K. semifinals.

Styles is the fourth member of One Direction to set his sights on solo endeavors since the band went on hiatus in 2016. However, unlike his fellow bandmates, Styles took a break from music to try his hand at acting. You can catch his acting debut in Christopher Nolan's 2017 summer film, Dunkirk.

The singer will make his solo television debut when he performs "Sign of The Times" on Saturday Night Live on April 15.
