How Jennifer Lopez's Son Is Following In Her Footsteps
Very few people in this world embody a cultural revolution in the way Jennifer Lopez has throughout her career. After the late Selena Quintanilla helped pave the way for Hispanic artists in America, the Latin songstress picked up the baton and ran beyond the sun, the moon, and the stars. With her penchant for intertwining traditions, Lopez introduced a plethora of new cultural norms to American society. Even decades into her career, the singer is still ruffling some feathers today (who can forget her Pepsi Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show performance?).
Though Lopez is hugely responsible for the shift in American culture, we would be remiss if we didn't mention how she accomplished such a tall task. A woman of many talents, the multihyphenate agglomerated her singing, acting, and dancing skills into one carefully crafted package that allowed for her palatability to shine across multiple demographics. And now, the mother-of-two is seeing her multifaceted skillset get passed down to her children, twins Emme Maribel and Maximilian David Muñiz.
Born in February 2008, the now-13-year-old fraternal twins have begun displaying their artistic inclinations spawned from mom Lopez and dad Marc Anthony. In fact, son Max has demonstrated one particular talent that harkens back to his parental upbringing. So, what talent has got Max following in mom Jennifer Lopez's footsteps? Read on to find out!
Max Muñiz loves to sing like his mom, Jennifer Lopez
Much like his mom Jennifer Lopez (and dad Marc Anthony, of course), son Max has begun displaying his musical talents from an early age. And though sister Emme loves to sing, she is not alone in this situation, as Max was born prepared with his own set of resonant windpipes.
In September 2019, Lopez blessed Instagram with a beautiful rendition of Vance Joy's hit song, "Riptide," performed by her talented children with Emme on ukelele and Max on vocals. The loving mother captioned the video, stating, "My heart can't take it...," but it didn't end there. In February, Lopez uploaded an absolute heart-melter to Instagram of her "littlest munchkin" that saw Max performing in a rendition of "The Wizard of Oz" — proving that not even a crowd can intimidate the youngster from singing in public.
In April 2020, prior to their split, then-fiancé Alex Rodriguez posted a video on his Instagram Story (via Hola!) of his children, Ella and Natasha, alongside Emme and Max singing along to the "Phineas and Ferb" theme song — showing that Max has a collaborative spirit as well!
Max and Emme's personalities are like "yin and yang," according to Jennifer Lopez
In a 2015 interview with Extra, Jennifer Lopez opened up about her artistically-inclined children and revealed that their personalities are like "yin and yang," given their contrasting identities. "Their personalities are beautiful; they're like yin and yang," Lopez opined. "They stay true to who they were from when they were born. Emme is like a mini-me; Max is really like a mini Marc [Anthony]," she continued.
Lopez then began to dig further into the analysis of her children, noting that "They're complete opposites." "[S]he's like super focused and super sensitive, quiet and focused and he's kind of off the charts, lots of energy, super funny," Lopez added. The songstress also opened up about what her children love to do, stating, "[t]hey both ask to take piano lessons and voice lessons, and they do gymnastics and Taekwondo."
In the same year, Lopez also revealed to E! News how strict of a mom she can be to her kids, especially with her "Sunday Funday" routine. "... Sunday Funday, they work towards that because they don't get to use their iPads during the week," Lopez told the outlet. "Or play video games or anything because it's school time. And they have to be good in school and then they get Sunday Funday. It's something I made up so they could work towards it and behave," she further added.
