The Real Reason Cameron Diaz Isn't Attracted To Her Husband's Twin

Cameron Diaz married Benji Madden in January 2015. According to People magazine, the two exchanged vows at their home in Beverly Hills in front of their closest family and friends, including Diaz's best friend Drew Barrymore, and Madden's identical twin brother, Joel Madden. A year earlier, Diaz opened up to Cosmopolitan about how she and Madden made their relationship work. "You have to find someone in the same place as you are. Timing is everything...No matter how old you are, finding the guy who's in the same place as you are and wants to show up is the only way a relationship works, period," she told the outlet.

In the years following their wedding, Diaz and Madden have remained secluded — and out of the spotlight. In fact, Diaz retired from acting in 2014 according to Vanity Fair. She would go on to become a first-time mother when she was 47-years-old, according to People. "Having a family when you're young ... it's like anything when you're young: You do it. But when you're my age and you decide to do it, it's a real choice. You really have to work hard for it," Diaz said in a 2020 interview with Naomi Campbell (via YouTube).

In September 2021, Diaz sat down for a chat with Anna Faris to talk about life — and she also revealed why she isn't physically attracted to her husband's twin brother, even though the two look exactly alike. Read on to find out what Diaz said.

Cameron Diaz said Benji & Joel Madden have different personalities

Cameron Diaz's husband, Benji Madden, is in the band Good Charlotte with his twin brother, Joel Madden. And while one might think that Diaz would find Joel attractive, it's not exactly like that for her. In September 2021, Diaz made an appearance on the "Anna Faris Is Unqualified" podcast, to talk about her life — and her marriage. She told Faris that she actually met her husband through his brother and his wife, Nicole Richie. She shared that she's attracted to her husband because of his personality, pointing out that he's nothing like his brother, Joel. "They're not the same, they're so different. Even though they're twins, they're very, very different obviously," Diaz told Faris.

During the interview with Faris, Diaz also recalled the very first time that she laid eyes on her husband. Even though she had already met his brother Joel, she recalled thinking "Huh, he's hot, I haven't seen him before." She went on to say that when she really got to know Benji, that's when she realized that he was the one. "Oh you, you're special, you're the guy, you're the hidden gem in my life," she remembered thinking.

Cameron Diaz said that marrying Benji Madden was the 'best thing that ever happened' to her

Cameron Diaz doesn't share too much about her personal life, but she isn't shy when it comes to letting people know just how happy she is — and just how thankful she is that Benji Madden came into her life when he did. In a 2019 interview with InStyle, Diaz got candid about her feelings. "Getting married to [Benji] was the best thing that ever happened to me. My husband's the best. He's the greatest human being, and he's my great partner. Marriage is certainly hard, and it's a lot of work. You need somebody who's willing to do the work with you, because there's no 60-40 in marriage. It's 50-50, period. All the time," she told the outlet.

The feeling, of course, is mutual. On Diaz's birthday in August 2021, Madden took to Instagram to share a sweet message for his wife. "Happy Birthday to my wife. You are beautiful in all ways, we are so lucky to have you. What you do who you are day in and day out to the ones you love always true blue — hard to put it all in a IG post but I love to have a reason to say it out loud I love you," he captioned a post.

Cameron Diaz & Benji Madden often double date with Nicole Richie & Joel Madden

As twins, Benji Madden and Joel Madden have an extremely close relationship. Thankfully, their wives also get along well, so the foursome spend quite a bit of time together, and they've been known to double date. Back in 2014, Nicole Richie appeared on "Watch What Happens Live!" and told Andy Cohen that she was really happy that Diaz hit it off with her brother-in-law. "I approve of anything that's going to make Benji happy," she said, according to Hello! "I am a devoted sister-in-law. I'm happy for anyone who is happy, and I want everyone to be surrounded with love," she added.

And when they aren't hanging out with Richie and Joel Madden, Diaz and Benji Madden are more than happy just being home with their daughter, Raddix. In fact, Diaz told Seth Meyers that she actually enjoyed the quarantine portion of the pandemic because her husband was at home. "The best part [of] having to stay within our little bubble within this COVID situation is that her dad gets to be home. He works from home, so ... he actually gets to come out of a meeting and give her a kiss and play with her for a little bit, whereas if he was going to the office every day, he wouldn't have been able to do that. We're just having a lot of gratitude for that," Diaz shared, according to Us Weekly.
