Titletown High Season 2 - Here's What We Can Tell Fans So Far
Football is one of America's favorite sports, so it's not surprising that people are interested in the inner workings of what it takes for a team to win and the hard work that players have to face during football season. While big league football gets much more attention from televised matches, high school football is just as competitive and drama-filled, as evidenced by Netflix's reality docu-series, "Titletown High."
The show, which premiered on the streaming service in August, follows the journeys of the Valdosta Wildcats players during the 2020 football season. Per The Cinemaholic, cameras capture the team on and off the field while they compete for state championship glory under coach Rush Propst. Viewers are also made aware of the struggles student athletes face, including relationship drama, intense competition, and pressures to carry on the legacy of the team.
With so much to see and learn, fans are eager to find out when the show will return to the streaming service. Here's what to know about a potential Season 2 of "Titletown High."
When is the release date for Titletown High Season 2?
The first season of "Titletown High" debuted August 27, 2021 on Netflix and consists of eight 30-35 minute-long episodes, which focused on the 2020 football season. The Cinemaholic reports that the first season took roughly eight months to shoot, and the streaming giant takes a few months before approving a new season. Judging by the timeline, Season 2 of "Titletown High" would currently be in production, awaiting a late 2022 release. Therefore, Netflix will most likely confirm a second season closer to when the series drops.
In an interview with Distractify, show creator, Jason Sciavicco, said that Season 2 has been in the works and will explore a lot of different scenarios when it returns. "There are a lot of untold stories," he said. "Just from the first week that the show was out, there are so many people wondering what's happening now. What are the kids' stories? What's going on now? What's happening with Valdosta? Are they able to continue? We end it dramatically, kind of leaving it out there."
Sciavicco also revealed that Season 2 might not be focused on Valdosta High's football team, but another school's football team. Taking his words into consideration, viewers shouldn't have to wait too long for Netflix to confirm a second season.
Who is cast in Titletown High Season 2?
The first season of "Titletown High" starred Amari Jones, Jake Garcia, Jacarrius Peak, and Grayson Leavy, Morgan Miller, Zoey Watson, Lenley Gross, Kaili, and Malia Spells, per IMDb. Of course, the most polarizing figure was coach Rush Propst, who played a major role in the first season.
If "Titletown High" is confirmed for a second season by Netflix and stays at the same high school, a majority of the cast will likely be back. Though seniors will have already left the team, Season 2 can still follow the lives and romances of younger players like Grayson as well as introduce new cast members. However, one person who will definitely not be back is Coach Propst.
According to ESPN, Propst's contract was not renewed for the 2021 season after allegations came out that he solicited funds to pay for the living expenses of players he'd recruited. The drama was played out on the last episode of "Titletown High," shocking viewers. Still, Propst's departure opens up the opportunity to introduce a new head coach for the players. Alternatively, viewers may be introduced to a new football team if show creator, Jason Sciavicco, decided to film another high school football team as he previously mentioned.
What will Titletown High Season 2 focus on?
Finding storylines for "Titletown High" Season 2 shouldn't be too difficult, as each player is likely to be dealing with some problems in their lives. The beginnings of Coach Rush Propst's firing were barely explored at the end of Season 1, and a second season could definitely examine the fallout of losing such an integral figure in the team, as well as the team's attempt to recover in the 2021 season.
Additionally, Season 2 could also tie up loose threads from Season 1 such as Grayson's tangled romantic life, or perhaps showcase more of the cheer team or cast members who were not as featured in the first season, like Kaili and Malia Spells. Regardless of what direction producers take the show in, there's bound to be drama galore. Fans had better stock up on the popcorn and get ready to binge watch Season 2 of "Titletown High" when it returns in 2022.
