90 Day Fiance: The Truth About Danielle's First Love

In the "90 Day Fiancé" universe, the old adage, "first comes love, then comes marriage" doesn't always hold true. For many couples, love is much closer to infatuation, especially when considering the mode of introduction for most of these couples. Danielle Jbali (née Mullins), who now stars in "90 Day Fiancé: The Single Life," opened up about her first relationship while on a date with someone she was excited about, letting him in on why she, a shy, single mother, has such devastating trust and insecurity issues.

Anyone who caught Danielle's time on "90 Day Fiancé" knows that the new nurse didn't have it easy and trudged through a nasty time with ex-husband, Mohammed Jbali. He famously refused to kiss her on their wedding day, accused her of smelling bad, and controversially said she peed on him, per Showbiz Cheat Sheet. The couple eventually divorced, after Mohamed begged Danielle not to get an annulment that would deport him back to his native Tunisia. And despite her anger at her ex, who allegedly cheated on her, the reality TV star gave in and got a divorce in 2018, allowing Mohamed to stay in the U.S.

This wouldn't be the first serious ex of Danielle living in America. In fact, she was with someone for more than two decades before she tried to pursue love on reality television. Here's what we know about her first love.

Danielle's trust issues began before Mohammed

Danielle Jbali (née Mullins) surprised fans on Season 1 of "90 Day Fiancé: The Single Life" when she opened up to her three friends while on vacation. She explained that she had been in a long-term relationship before marrying Mohamed Jbali, with the man of her four children.

According to Screen Rant, the single reality TV star was in a relationship with her "high school sweetheart" for 22 years before the romance ended. According to Danielle, the pair never tied the knot "because we figured we were making it this far, why do something and have it break?" Obviously that logic didn't hold up, as the two eventually separated, leaving Danielle to raise her children alone.

One of the hardest parts about Danielle's story is that, as Screen Rant detailed, her ex-boyfriend went on to date her neighbor and friend and just to rub salt in her wounded heart. Danielle even used to sell sex toys to this person, making the situation even more uncomfortable. This, apparently, is where her trust issues started — and they were only exacerbated by Mohamed using her for a free trip to American citizenship.

Danielle is making her dreams come true

Anyone who's followed Danielle Jbali's (née Mullins) story knows that she hasn't had an easy love life. After separating from her boyfriend of 22 years, Danielle tried her hand at love on "90 Day Fiancé," only to be used by her ex-husband, Mohamed Jbali.

According to E! News, Mohamed left Danielle a mere two months after his green card was approved and moved to Miami, Florida; leaving Danielle in Ohio, alone. That didn't stop Danielle, however, from moving on and fulfilling a long-held dream. In June, the reality TV star posted images to her Instagram feed of her capping ceremony for nursing school. According to Lenora Bodway, the director of nursing at Jacksonville, Florida's Career Institute, the capping ceremony "is a time-honored nursing school tradition and often more personally meaningful than the graduation ceremony." Danielle is looking to get a serious bump in pay when she finishes school as well. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, licensed nurses make a median of $48,000 a year, a considerable $20,000 boost over the median income for the work she did as a caregiver

While it might seem unlikely, Danielle and Mohamed have somehow built a tenuous friendship over the last year and a half and the now famous exes even provide encouragement to each other. Per Showbiz Cheat Sheet, Mohamed left praise for his ex-wife on her nursing school post and slammed TLC for their allegedly sketchy editing process. All's well that ends well!
