The True Meaning Behind 'Bitter' By Summer Walker & Cardi B
Summer Walker's latest album "Still Over It" has been an instant hit with fans. The R&B star's sophomore album dropped November 5 and followed her wildly successful debut record "Over It."
Whereas Walker's first album became a smash for its more fun-loving tracks, fans anticipated "Still Over It" to take a more emotional turn after the star's public breakup with producer London on da Track, who was a main collaborator on "Over It." Ahead of her latest album drop, fans were looking forward to the singer spilling the tea about her failed on-off relationship with the producer, with whom she shares a daughter. Walker's fans weren't disappointed upon hearing songs from "Still Over It." The singer gets candid about love lost in nearly every track on the album — and in many cases doesn't hold back about her scorned feelings toward her baby daddy.
Walker's "No Love" featuring SZA is a standout track on the album, rising into No. 13 on the Billboard charts after the album dropped. In the superstar collab, Walker airs out her negative feelings about her ex not treating her well. And she continues that theme on "Bitter," her collaboration with Cardi B. "Bitter" has not only risen to the No. 25 Billboard spot, but is also capturing fans' attention for its shady verses.
Summer Walker and Cardi B call out London's ex Eboni Ivorii on Bitter
Not only does Summer Walker put her ex-boyfriend on blast on "Still Over It," she goes after the other woman in their turbulent relationship. "Bitter," featuring Cardi B, reveals Walker's feelings toward London on da Track's former girlfriend Eboni Ivorii, who she calls his "bitter baby mama."
"So why you puttin' on for The Shade Room and Insta'? / B****es just be lookin' for attention," she sings about the (allegedly) meddling woman in the chorus. "Always point her finger at a n****, whenever it's a problem / Always put the blame on a n**** instead of tryna solve it," Walker later sings about London's gossiping ex.
In a surprise to fans, rapper Cardi B's work on "Bitter" is a spoken word feature. Cardi — who was allegedly in a similar beef with her husband Offset's baby mama, per HipHopDX — offers direct advice to Walker about her personal struggles. In what seems like a personal audio message to Walker, Cardi encourages the singer to rise above the drama with London and his former flame.
"Even though you have problems, put that drama in your music, yeah / 'Cause if b****es wanna get clout off you, you gone get clout of them," Cardi speaks on the track. "Make them b****** feel hurt, hit them b****es where it hurt/ And put that s*** in your music and make money off it in your music."
Fans respond to Summer Walker's brutal honesty
Summer Walker did not mince words on "Bitter" and the jabs on the song led fans to believe she was shading London on da Track's ex Eboni Ivorii. The ex responded to "Bitter" in an fiery Instagram Story slide after the track released, stating she does not care what Walker nor Cardi B think of her, per Sportskeeda.
Walker's fans were in awe of the singer's honesty on her track with Cardi. Since Walker's breakup with London is still fresh and her feud with his exes remains ongoing, fans were shocked at just how far the hitmaker went with her lyrics. "Summer Walker ate London baby mamas UP on bitter," one fan tweeted. Another Twitter user joked Walker "chose violence" by making "Bitter" the album opener on "Still Over It."
Walker revealed to Apple Music that she hoped the savage messages on her songs would serve as a warning for fans, per Revolt. "Take this opportunity to learn from my mistakes," she said. The songstress continued with relationship advice she learned the hard way. "Stop making excuses for people who don't show up for you," she said. "Don't ignore the red flags. And don't think you have to stay somewhere 'cause you can't find better — you can and you will."
