The Truth About Harry Hamlin's Relationship With Ursula Andress
Harry Hamlin has been happily married to Lisa Rinna since March 1997, but his journey to finding his happily-ever-after was anything but smooth. Before meeting the "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star, Hamlin was married to "Desperate Housewives" alum Nicollette Sheridan, a union that lasted just one year. Hamlin claims that their marriage ended because Sheridan had an affair with musician Michael Bolton.
Hamlin's tweet came amid a scandal that ensued after Rinna accused Sheridan of cheating on "RHOBH." Sheridan denied the claim on Twitter, calling it "FAKE NEWS." She wrote, "Harry and I ended our marriage nose to nose in Canada...Michael was a long time friend that was invited to our wedding." But Hamlin stood by his wife's accusation, tweeting, "What's it called when your wife of one year suddenly goes to bed with a pop singer? ...two weeks after your mother dies??" He continued, "I did a lotta stuff with my wife 'nose to nose' but ending our marriage was not one of them!"
Before Sheridan, Hamlin was in yet another marriage that ended on a bad note. Hamlin married "Falcon Crest" actor Laura Johnson in 1985, but the couple divorced in 1990 — an event he described as "not very pleasant" in a 1994 interview with the Chicago Tribune. While that was Hamlin's first marriage, he had previously been in a long-term relationship with Swiss actor Ursula Andress — one that was also marked by ups and downs.
Harry Hamlin and Ursula Andress fell in love in a flea market
Harry Hamlin met Ursula Andress when they co-starred in the 1981 fantasy film "Clash of the Titans," but he had known who she was since he was boy. Like most everyone at the time, Hamlin watched "Dr. No" in 1962, the first film of the "James Bond" franchise in which Andress portrayed the very first Bond Girl, transforming her into a sex symbol of the 1960s and 1970s.
Hamlin told Yahoo! that he developed an even stronger crush on Andress after seeing her Playboy spread in 1965. "For some unknown reason my parents gave me a five-year subscription to Playboy for Christmas when I was 12," he said. "I never knew why they did that." Hamlin kept that detail to himself when he met her, though. "I'm not sure I said, 'By the way, Ursula, I loved your layout in Playboy when I was 13,'" he said.
Instead, Hamlin and Andress' first conversation revolved around flea markets, which opened the door to their relationship. "When we got to Rome to start filming there, she called me at the hotel one day and said, 'I'm only five houses down from the hotel, and there's a flea market tomorrow on the Porta Portese. Do you want to go?' So that's how that happened," he said. Hamlin and Andress became engaged in 1980 when she became pregnant, the Associated Press reported. However, People reported that the relationship ended before they tied the knot.
Harry Hamlin and Ursula Andress share a son
Ursula Andress was 44 when she had her first and only child, and she considered having a stable relationship to be an important part of the process. "The decision to have a child is not easy. I lived without restriction until today," she told the Associated Press in April 1980. So she and Harry Hamlin, who is 15 years her junior, made plans to wed after Andress gave birth to their son, Dimitri. But they never did. Instead, the couple raised their son together for three years in their cottage in Hollywood's Laurel Canyon before they split.
Andress told People in 1983 that it was Hamlin who repeatedly put off the wedding. Three months earlier, Andress told the magazine the time "to do the legal thing for Dimitri's sake" was near. However, by July, Hamlin had moved out of their shared home and was hanging out with other women. In hindsight, Andress believes she put too much pressure on him. "I was always very possessive, and for Harry, his career is the main thing," she said.
The couple remained close as they raised Dimitri, according to Yahoo! – in fact, Hamlin attended Andress' 70th birthday bash in 2006. All in all, it sounds like the breakup with Andress was less dramatic than the ends of his marriages.
