Lady Gaga Defends Ed Sheeran After Fans Bully Him

After her fans harassed Ed Sheeran on social media, the Mother Monster posted a message on Instagram, letting followers know to back off of the British singer.

"What an incredible talented artist I LOVE ED," Lady Gaga wrote alongside a photo of herself with Sheeran. "@teddysphotos deserves all our love and respect like all humans do. I wish all people on the internet would be positive and loving and apart of creating an online community that is kind and empowering, not hateful and mean. No reason to tear down an artist simply because they are on top."

The 31-year-old continued, "Work harder to be kinder everybody. That should be your first duty to humanity."

Previously, The Sun had reported that Sheeran was staying off of Twitter after receiving hateful messages. "I've actually come off Twitter completely. I can't read it," he told the paper. "I go on it and there's nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter's a platform for that."

"One comment ruins your day. But that's why I've come off it," Sheeran, who is reportedly no longer running his own Twitter page, said. "The head-f*** for me has been trying to work out why people dislike me so much."

The paper noted that Gaga's fans, known affectionately as Little Monsters, were a large part of the mean-spirited tweets. According to E! News, many of her fans seem to have assumed that Sheeran was bashing Gaga in an interview with Beats Radio 1. In the interview, he'd said, "I do not want to be the kind of artist who has had two successful albums and then feels invincible. I have to know when to listen to people, or I'll end up like those artists you've interviewed in recent years. You've seen them become the biggest artists in the world, and then suddenly they will say, 'I know everything!' And just after, they are no longer at the top."

Sheeran, 26, added, "The smartest thing to do is listen to people who know I do not want to do the Super Bowl years later, after my biggest success, just to prove I'm still relevant."

However, Sheeran insists that he was not referring to Gaga at all. "Lady Gaga's fanbase read an interview in which they assumed I was talking about her and they all f***ing hate," he told The Sun. "And it wasn't anything to do with that at all."

Hopefully, now that Gaga's addressed her fans, the mean-spirited messages will soon be over. Unfortunately though, this isn't the first time Gaga's fans have attacked a celebrity over a passing comment.
