Lorde Explains She Hasn't 'Jumped Ship' On BFF Taylor Swift

Don't worry, Lorde and Taylor Swift are still as close as ever, despite a recent interview that hinted otherwise.

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Lorde appeared on the Australian morning show Sunrise and, while discussing her idols, revealed, "I don't hang out with these people at all."

When host David Koch reacted with surprise, referencing the singer's friendship with Swift and her squad, Lorde replied, "You know, you make friends in different places. But I think for the most part I'm not, like, calling my idols for advice necessarily." This led many to believe that Lorde and Swift aren't as close as they once seemed to be.

However, Lorde says this simply isn't true. The "Green Light" singer took to Twitter to release a text image statement, addressing the interview. "Wow – something of a frustrating thing to have to address online but here we go," she wrote. "Taylor is a dear friend. i love her very much. in the interview in question i had just been talking about bowie and patti smith – those were the 'idols' i was referring to that i was saying i'm not friends with, not taylor!"

Lorde then went on to comment about her part in Swift's infamous girl squad, which includes the likes of Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, and Gigi Hadid: "I've always found people's perception of this 'squad' idea frustrating in the past; it was never some exclusive club or secret society, but a wide circle of people, some of whom i know, and some who i've never met, like most wide groups of friends. forgive me for the mild eyeroll i popped when it was brought up as if we're all blood members of a secret club."

The 20-year-old then shifted gears to discuss her friendship with Swift more directly. "Really s***ty to wake up to headlines about whether or not you've jumped ship on someone you deeply respect and ride for," Lorde continued, adding, "I want to say one more time that taylor has been there for me in all my dark and light moments these past 5 years, all of them. i feel truly terrible that it would ever seem like i wasn't faithfully her person."

She then concluded, "i f***ed up an interview question. now go sip a beverage and head out on a walk."

Well, guess that's that. Still, we wouldn't mind hearing Swift's take on Lorde's recent interview. Maybe she'll poke her head out of the recording studio for a statement?

Yeah, probably not.
