John Boyega Remembers Carrie Fisher, Talks 'Amazing' Star Wars Send-Off

John Boyega has opened up about the late Carrie Fisher and her upcoming Star Wars send-off.

The 25-year-old actor appeared on Popcorn with Peter Travers on Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2017. During the interview, he discussed working with the iconic actress, with whom he shares many scenes in the series' upcoming installment, The Last Jedi

"You get to know someone, and the gloss and the glamour, it starts to kind of go away," Boyega revealed. "And you just see the person, and you're having a great time and enjoying each other's company."

The actor, who plays Finn in the films, was in Nigeria with his family when the heartbreaking news of Fisher's death broke. He recalled, "It was strange...a strange feeling. I feel like everybody in the cast, and everybody around the world, just went silent for a bit — kind of like a dimmed light."

The Detroit star also took a moment to reassure fans about Fisher's — and Princess Leia's — departure from the Star Wars universe. "This movie, it sends her off in an amazing, amazing way," he revealed. "And she's still kept alive in this franchise — and that's the beauty of it, she lives forever in that sense."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, Fisher tragically passed away at the age of 60, following a massive heart attack in late December 2016. At the time, Boyega was one of countless stars who took to Twitter to express his grief. "My heart is heavy but I'm grateful that I got to know her," he wrote. "I'll cherish the memories, conversations and her consistent support. Rest well."

The Last Jedi will hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017. In the meantime, check out all the things you never knew about the cast of The Force Awakens.
