Tom Petty's Death Being Investigated By Coroner
Just what caused the "American Girl" singer's sudden passing?
The Los Angeles Times reports that the Los Angeles County coroner's department is investigating Tom Petty's death. Ed Winter, a spokesperson for the department, told the paper that an autopsy had been performed on Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017. However, an official cause of death has not yet been determined.
A toxicology test is also being conducted, but results could take weeks.
While no foul play is currently suspected, it is reportedly routine for the coroner's department to look into all deaths in which the deceased had not seen a doctor in the six months before their passing.
As Nicki Swift previously reported, Petty had been found unconscious and in full cardiac arrest in his Malibu, Calif. home on Oct. 1, 2017. After being transported to the hospital, he was placed on life support. However, "after learning Tom had no brain activity," his family ultimately decided to remove him from life support. Petty, who was just 66 years old, died surrounded by loved ones at UCLA Santa Monica Hospital.
