Jason Momoa Apologizes For Rape Joke

The Game of Thrones star is sorry for her his insensitive comments.

On Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, Jason Momoa took to Instagram to share a statement after a video resurfaced online of him making a joke about rape. "I awoke in Australia to the justified reactions by many people to a distasteful joke I made years ago in Hall H for which I am sorry," Momoa wrote. "I am still severely disappointed in myself at the insensitivity of my remarks that day."

Momoa, 38, continued, "I know my sincerest apology now won't take away those hurtful words. Rape and sexual harassment can reach anyone and I have seen first hand its painful torment among members of my own family and friends."

The actor concluded, "I made a truly tasteless comment. It is unacceptable and I sincerely apology with a heavy heart for the words I said."

As Nicki Swift previously reported, a clip of Momoa at a Game of Thrones Comic Con panel was reshared on social media, showing the Aquaman star discussing what he likes best about the show. "But as far as sci-fi and fantasy, I love that there's so many things you can do, like rip someone's tongue out of their throat and get away with it ... and rape beautiful women."

After Momoa spoke, the audience erupted into laughter and his castmates hid their faces behind their hands.

The video clip's resurfacing came after Momoa's Justice League co-star Ben Affleck was accused of groping actress Hilarie Burton and of lying about his knowledge of disgraced Hollywood exec Harvey Weinstein's history of sexual misconduct.
