How Many No. 1 Singles Has Lady Gaga Had On The Billboard Hot 100?

Lady Gaga's success almost seemed overnight, going from aspiring singer to bonafide superstar in a short space of time. Over the past 10 years, the "Edge of Glory" hitmaker has won an astonishing 13 Grammy Awards as well as an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "Shallow" from "A Star is Born" (which she starred in alongside Bradley Cooper).

Although Gaga continues to enjoy a huge amount of success these days, there was a time when she struggled to get her songs played on the radio. During a 2009 interview with MTV, the "House of Gucci" actor admitted she faced a lot of rejection. "We fought and we fought and I played every club. I had chicken dinner with every program director I could get my hands on," she said. A turning point in her career was when the LGBTQ+ community embraced her music before she blew up. "I've got so many gay fans and they're so loyal to me and they really lifted me up. They'll always stand by me and I'll always stand by them."

Gaga's debut album, "The Fame," first dropped in 2008 and has since been named one of the best debut albums of all time by Rolling Stone. Since releasing her first album, Gaga has secured herself a substantial amount of hits. But, how many of them reached the top spot?

Lady Gaga is a bonafide hitmaker

Since breaking onto the scene, powerhouse performer Lady Gaga has been racking up the hits. On the US Billboard Hot 100 alone, the "Hold My Hand" hitmaker has achieved an impressive 17 top 10 hits. Out of those 17 songs, five of them reached the top spot.

In 2008, Gaga's debut single, "Just Dance," peaked at No. 1 and spent 49 weeks on the chart. Her follow-up release, "Poker Face," reached the same position in 2009. That same year, Gaga released two other singles that can be considered some of her signature hits — "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" featuring Beyoncé. With that being said, neither of them are part of her five No. 1 songs in the US. Her next chart-topper wouldn't take place until 2011 when she released the LGBTQ+ anthem, "Born This Way." Spending six weeks at No. 1, this is the longest any of her songs have remained on the top spot.

Both Gaga's albums "ARTPOP" and "Joanne" featured more hits — "Applause" and "Million Reasons" — but failed to achieve more No. 1's. However, her 2018 collaboration with actor Bradley Cooper, "Shallow," proved Gaga was still on top of her game, becoming her fourth No. 1 smash. Gaga's fifth and most recent chart-topper happened in 2020 when she teamed up with Ariana Grande for "Rain On Me." The following year, the duo won a Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Chromatica proves Lady Gaga is an unstoppable force

Lady Gaga's debut album, "The Fame," introduced the singer as one of music's most exciting pop acts. Unlike many other singers that have come and gone over the years, Gaga has remained an unstoppable force who continues to propel herself. Her most recent studio album, "Chromatica," not only became her sixth chart-topper on the US Billboard 200 chart but featured A-list collaborations with Ariana Grande, Elton John, and BLACKPINK.

In an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music (via Variety) in 2020, Gaga explained that making the record was a healing process. In return, she hopes listeners suffering from their own demons will also feel empowered when they hear the record. "If you're listening to this album and you're suffering in any type of way, just know that that suffering within itself is a sign of your humanity and you are not broken. You are connected to the whole world and we are one giant body. We are one full entity," she said.

In promotion of "Chromatica," Gaga embarked on a stadium tour around the world. During the Paris show at the Stade de France, it was reported by Express that Gaga performed to an audience of 76,000, becoming the largest crowd she had ever performed to in her career. In response, she wrote in an Instagram caption, "This was the greatest tour of my life and I will cherish this moment forever."
