This Is What Mick Jagger Really Thinks About Maroon 5's 'Moves Like Jagger'

Maroon 5's pop single, "Moves Like Jagger," was an instant hit. The song — which features Christina Aguilera — peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it sat for four weeks. The song's accompanying video was equally as popular and, as of this writing, has 768 million views on YouTube. And while fans clearly loved the upbeat track, Adam Levine once admitted that the band was hesitant to release the single.

"It was one of those songs that was definitely a risk; it's a bold statement," Levine told Billboard. "We've never really released a song like that. But it's exciting to do something different, do something new. I'm just happy everyone likes it." Levine further explained that while he liked the song a lot, he was worried it "wasn't going to be big." However, the song went on to be one of the group's biggest releases to date, and their first No. 1 single since 2007. Levine was undoubtedly wrong to wary of the song, but some may still be wondering what Mick Jagger thinks about the smash hit.

Mick Jagger says the song 'puts pressure' on him

The Rolling Stones rose to fame in 1960's and are often hailed as one of the pioneers of Rock and Roll. Led by singer Mick Jagger, the band soared to stratospheric success with hits like "Gimme Shelter," and "Sympathy for the Devil."

And while the group has continued performing throughout the years, they gained renewed popularity when Jagger was named in the 2011 Maroon 5 song, "Moves Like Jagger." Jagger has a cheeky response when asked for his opinion on the single, and his thoughts are pretty hilarious. "It's very catchy. It's funny. Only thing is, it puts pressure on me when I go out dancing," he told The Sun (via Digital Spy). "I wish I had written it. But wouldn't that be weird? It's not really like a Maroon 5 song, so they're probably as surprised by the success of it as I am."

Ultimately, the rockstar seems to be fond of the nod from Maroon 5, despite once joking that he didn't get paid for being named in the uber-popular song. "You don't earn a cent when someone does a song about having "Moves Like Jagger," he said during an appearance on "The Late Show with David Letterman."

Mick Jagger helped Maroon 5 with the music video

Despite Mick Jagger's coy remarks when asked about the Maroon 5 song, "Moves Like Jagger," the Rolling Stones frontman played an integral part in the creation of the music video. In a 2011 interview with MTV, Adam Levine revealed that the band received Jagger's approval, as well as exclusive access to archival footage for the project. "We were lucky enough to get Mick's endorsement [for the video], as far as him giving us access to a bunch of different footage — that's so cool," Levine said. "Not many people have seen [it], especially a newer generation of people that don't know so much about how incredible he was."

The song proved to be equally as beneficial to Jagger's star power as well. Following the song's release, a new generation of music lovers were exposed to the 60's rocker — although some are seemingly unaware of his musical legacy. "Just found out there are people out there who thought mick jagger was a professional dancer bc of maroon 5," one person tweeted. Another jokingly suggested, "Mick jagger was invented in 2011 by maroon 5 for moves like jagger."
